TRIUMPH is introducing two new models for the 2024 model year: the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X. These two motorcycles are part of TRIUMPH's Modern Classics series, which has already achieved great success with the Speed Twin 900 and 1200 models. The "Speed 400" roadster expands this segment, while the Scrambler 400 X takes its design elements from the Scrambler 900 and 1200 models, creating a link to the early factory Scramblers of the 1950s. (Now also the prices have been announced)

New models, new heart: the single-cylinder engine platform

The TR engine series pays homage to TRIUMPH’s famous “Trophy” model range and brings the brand’s heritage into the modern era. The heritage goes back to the racing single-cylinder engines of the early 20th century and, in particular, the off-road competition bikes of the renowned Six Day Trials.

Featuring a completely redesigned, liquid-cooled 398cc single-cylinder engine with fuel injection, the TR engine series combines TRIUMPH’s modern-classic style with modern technology. This allows for outstanding performance and a fast, fun-oriented power delivery. The powerful and distinctive sound of the exhaust completes the overall experience.

Technical refinements such as the DOHC cylinder head with four valves and the precisely balanced crankshaft optimize the moment of inertia and ensure excellent handling, even at low engine speeds. The lightweight finger follower valve train with low-friction DLC coating enhances the performance of this torquey yet powerful engine. In addition, the six-speed transmission allows for easy and precise shifting and an ideal ratio spread to get the most out of this high-character, high-torque engine.

The highlights of the brand new TR engine:

  • Peak power of 40 hp (approx. 39.6 hp, approx. 29.8 KW) and a maximum torque of 37.5 Nm
  • Liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that even undercuts Euro 5 emission requirements
  • Unobtrusive integrated liquid cooling and machined cooling fins
  • Black powder-coated engine housing
  • Impressive pulling power and revving ability
  • Full-bodied and unmistakable exhaust sound
  • Six-speed transmission

With the introduction of the new TR engine series, TRIUMPH once again emphasizes its ability to combine tradition and modernity in perfect symbiosis.

Retro meets modern: The design of the new Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X

TRIUMPH’s Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X models, designed at the British headquarters in Hinckley, combine retro and modern design. They retain the typical characteristics of the TRIUMPH brand, such as the distinctive silhouette, characteristic fuel tanks and classic engine design, and offer similar quality and riding experience to the brand’s larger models.

The motorcycles combine traditional design elements such as the distinctive finned cylinder head and classic exhaust manifolds with modern details including a raised muffler, sleek graphics and integrated technology such as discrete liquid cooling and flowing exhaust routing with hidden pre-muffler. This creates TRIUMPH’s unique modern custom style.
