Renewal in detail:
Core retained, performance increased
The renowned 1084 cc inline twin, which is the pulsating source of power for the Africa Twins, has received a fine-tuning. Although the peak power remains unchanged at an impressive 102 hp (100.5 hp, 75 kW), the maximum torque experiences a 7% increase and now presents itself with a proud 112 Nm, with it already being available at 5,500 rpm instead of the previous 6,250 rpm.
Silencer and DCT system
A revised exhaust system muffler plays a key role in supporting low- and mid-range performance, while the optional DCT automated dual-clutch transmission, a Honda exclusive, has been further perfected for 2024 to make the most of the increased engine power.
Optics, equipment and technology
For the 2024 model year, the CRF1100L Africa Twin and the CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports undergo various modifications. A visual refresh is reflected in a redesigned fairing and a revised seat end.
Technically, a 5-position height-adjustable windshield has been implemented and tubeless tires are now used on the spoked wheels.
On the electronic side, a 6-axis sensor system and various driving assistance systems, including four driving modes, cornering ABS, and other control functions, are used. Additional features such as a USB port and cruise control are also part of the 2024 updates.
Innovative multi-information display and safety features of the Africa Twin
With a 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen multi-information display (MID), the Africa Twin not only offers user-friendly control of all system settings and riding modes, but also a flexible display of various riding mode-specific information. Glove-friendly and individually configurable, it provides the interface to numerous innovative functions. These include seamless smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto®, allowing access to navigation apps and call control via Bluetooth headset while the smartphone is securely connected via USB or Bluetooth.
In addition, the Africa Twin highlights its safety features with front and rear turn signals that have an emergency stop signal function. In the event of abrupt emergency braking from over 50 km/h, other road users are informed by an automated warning flash, with the signal cut-off intelligently controlled by monitoring the rotational speeds of the front and rear wheels.
Uncompromising off-road: The CRF1100L Africa Twin
More than just suspension: Showa EERA™
The Showa EERA™ semi-active suspension is now available as an option for the CRF1100L Africa Twin 2024 (Africa Twin ES equipment). With electronically controlled suspension elements and a wide range of setting options via the 6.5-inch touchscreen cockpit, it enables straightforward suspension adjustment, with five setup modes (SOFT, MID, HARD, OFF-ROAD and USER) that optimize handling in a wide range of scenarios.
Previously available only on the 1100cc Africa Twin Adventure Sports model, this technology offers 230 mm of travel in the front and 220 mm in the rear. With a response time of 15 milliseconds, the EERA™ system allows for sensitive damping adjustment.
The standard CRF1100L Africa Twin, on the other hand, stays true to Showa technology but with a manual system: it is equipped with a 45 mm upside-down cartridge-type fork that offers 230 mm of travel, with continuously adjustable damping rebound, compression and spring preload. The Showa rear shock brings 220 mm of travel, plus an external reservoir for consistent damping performance, even off paved roads. Spring preload is adjustable via a rotary knob, while rebound and compression damping are individually configurable.
Updates for wheels and brakes of the Africa Twin
The CRF1100L Africa Twin is equipped with advanced cornering ABS optimized by the six-axis sensor system. When leaning, this system constantly measures the motorcycle’s lean angle, deceleration via speed sensors on both wheels, and slip rate. This guarantees optimum braking force at every lean and in every situation. If the rear wheel lifts off unintentionally, the braking force is automatically adjusted so that the machine remains stable. For off-road use, the ABS on the rear wheel can be optionally deactivated.
The front wheel is braked by floating 310 mm Wave dual discs combined with four-piston radial calipers. A perforated 256 mm Wave brake disc is used at the rear.
The Africa Twin relies on a 21/18-inch wheel combination with aluminum rims and stainless steel spokes. A significant update for 2024 is the conversion to tubeless tires, with the Metzeler Karoo Street mounted in 90/90-21 M/C 54H and 150/70-R18 M/C 70H sizes. For those who prefer a chunkier option, the Michelin Anakee Wild tires in 90/90-21 M/C 54R TL and 150/70-18 M/C 70R TL are also a possibility.
Compact overview: Africa Twin
The Africa Twin scores with thoughtful design and functional features for comfortable and controlled riding in diverse terrains. With an adjustable seat height of 850 or 870 mm and ergonomically positioned handlebars, it allows both standing and seated riding with optimum comfort and control.
Included items such as an aluminum luggage rack and sturdy hand guards enhance practicality, while LED dual headlights with adaptive daytime running lights improve safety. With an 18.8-liter fuel tank and a fuel consumption of 4.9 liters/100 km (according to WMTC), the bike ensures remarkable range and efficiency on both adventure tours and everyday use.
The Africa Twin is available in Grand Prix Red and Matt Ballistic Black Metallic, while the Africa Twin ES is available in Pearl Glare White/Glint Wave Blue Metallic (Tricolor).

For the long haul: CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports
High-end suspension as standard
The Adventure Sports version of the Africa Twin shines in the 2024 vintage with a number of updates, including the now standard Showa EERA™ high-end suspension elements on both wheels that electronically control semi-active damping and can be adjusted in various modes via the cockpit display.
Improved grip, reduced seat height
With a reduced 19-inch front wheel and a tire size of 110/80-19 – as opposed to the previous 90/90-21 – the bike promises improved grip, higher front-end feedback and increased stability for road riding and full loads. The revised seat cushion and now lower seat height options of 835 and 855 mm, respectively, combined with reduced suspension travel of 210 mm in the front and 200 mm in the rear, promote more active riding and facilitate stop-and-go maneuvers and maneuvering.
For long-distance enthusiasts, the generous 24.8-liter fuel tank proves a boon. Furthermore, the machine offers optimum wind and weather protection thanks to the newly designed fairing and the five-position adjustable windshield.
Standard features such as a robust engine guard, aluminum luggage rack, hand protectors, tubeless tires, heated grips and a 12-volt on-board socket underscore the bike’s touring capabilities.
Finally, the Africa Twin Adventure Sports is available in two color options, Mat Ballistic Black Metallic and Pearl Glare White (Tricolour), with the distinctive ‘Mountain Graphics’.

For whom is which Africa Twin suitable?
In short, the regular “CRF1100L Africa Twin” presents itself as the more off-road affine variant, while the “CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports” emphasizes the multi-purpose character for extended touring and versatility.
Tailored to individual needs: Accessories program
For those who wish to further personalize their Africa Twin, Honda offers a wide range of original accessories, including various luggage solutions, decorative and practical additions, as well as seat benches of different heights, which can be purchased either individually or as advantageous package offers such as “Rally” or “Adventure”.
Finally, both models are also available with the DCT dual-clutch transmission, which adds an extra touch of comfort and functionality for a wide variety of driving experiences.
Conclusion
With improved pulling power, enhanced chassis features and visual redesigns, the 2024 models of the CRF1100L Africa Twin and CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports present themselves as serious evolutions of their already impressive predecessors and aim to set new standards in the adventure segment.
