Arc Vehicle in crisis: electric motorcycle manufacturer ceases operations after financial difficulties

The challenges facing start-ups and vehicle manufacturers in 2024 are enormous.  This is shown particularly clearly by the example of Arc Vehicle, a manufacturer of electric motorcycles.  The company has tried to conquer a market niche with its high-priced, fully electric and hub-steered motorcycle “Vector”.  The list price of the motorcycle was 128,000 US dollars, which is the equivalent of around 116,800 euros.

Despite the ambitious approach, Arc Vehicle did not succeed in overcoming the economic challenges.  According to reports from MCN and Visor Down, the company has gone into liquidation.  The information from the UK company regulator Company House confirms that Arc V LTD has filed an “extraordinary resolution for winding up” and appointed a voluntary liquidator.  At the time of the insolvency filing, only eleven motorcycles had been delivered to customers, including well-known motorcycle enthusiast and actor Ryan Reynolds.

Difficulties despite good prospects

Mark Truman, founder and CEO of Arc Vehicle, commented on the company’s difficult situation.  “When you sell high-priced, low-volume, customized products, it only takes a few people to let you down to get into trouble,” Truman explained.  Despite good omens, distribution problems in the USA in particular caused the company problems, which ultimately led to an urgent need for capital.  Truman is currently actively looking for investors to lead the company out of administration.  He also emphasized that he would do everything in his power to ensure support for customers’ motorcycles on the market.

No new territory for Arc

Arc Vehicle’s history is characterized by ups and downs.  The company was originally founded in 2017 and had to file for bankruptcy once before in 2019.  Truman bought the company back and revived it in 2020.  There were even talks about further funding with the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles, but these did not materialize or did not take place in time.

The future of the company and the Vector model in particular remains uncertain.  Although Truman is optimistic about resolving the matter and reinvigorating the company, time will tell whether this high-priced electric motorcycle will return to the market.
