At the EICMA, Honda presented the new XL750 Transalp.  With 92 PS, it is currently the most powerful touring enduro in this class.

Engine and performance

The XL750 Transalp is powered by an inline two-cylinder with 755cc.  Basically, the engine of the Hornet was taken over unchanged and transplanted into the new steel bridge frame of the Transalp.  Accordingly, the performance data are identical. 92 PS (67.5 kW) are achieved at 9,500 rpm and 75 Nm at 7,250 rpm.  A 48 PS variant is also offered as an alternative for the European A2 market.

Other electronics

The settings have been carefully adjusted to provide sensitive response for Touring.  Four riding modes are available, Sport, Standard, Rain, Gravel and a User mode in which one can influence the parameters of engine power, engine brake, ABS, HSTC traction control and wheelie control.

The new Transalp is equipped with a 5-inch TFT color display that also features Honda`s smartphone voice control system.

Lighting uses LED technology all around.  The turn signals are self-resetting and there is also an emergency brake signal function.

Chassis

At the front, a 43mm Showa SFF-CA upside-down fork keeps the front wheel quiet.  The suspension travel is 200 mm.  The aluminum swingarm features a Showa monoshock and Pro-Link mounting.  Here, the suspension travel is 190 mm.  The spring base can be adjusted at the front and rear.  The ground clearance is specified with 210 mm.

Braking is at the front with 310 mm Wave double-disc brakes and two-piston calipers.  The tire dimensions are 90/90 R21 at the front and 150/70 R18 at the rear.  With the block tread tires, they want to offer the versatility to ride on the road as well as off-road.

The seat height is 850 mm, optionally there is also a seat through which 820 mm is achieved.  Under the seat hides the USB charging port.

Masatoshi Sato, XL750 Transalp project manager, Honda R&D, Japan: “With our new Transalp we looked hard at what made the first model so good and wanted to strike the right balance between urban agility, long-distance, on-road touring comfort and off-road ability. In arriving where we are, we have considered all these aspects in a ‘360 degree’ way, and created a bike that gives riders of all experience levels a fresh new option in the Honda range. The look revives the classic Transalp presence in a modern key, the new engine is incredibly strong and versatile, and the bike has an appealingly long and rich specification list. Around town or around the world – our Transalp is ready!”
