Honda has filed patents with the Japanese Patent Office that show very interesting details. The performance of the Africa Twin is to be increased by means of an engine-driven supercharger and a dual injection system.

Displacement loader

On the patent sketches you can see the 1084cc parallel twin, which was equipped with a compressor and the corresponding tubes. Kawasaki already has some compressor models on the market, but the Honda system is different.

It is a twin-screw design, a so-called displacement loader, which delivers a fixed amount of air at each revolution. This means that one has almost always the same pressure, whether the engine is idling or revving up. The maximum boost pressure is thus achieved over the entire speed range, which enables a very good torque curve and consistent performance. The consistent power output that can be achieved is optimal for an adventure motorcycle.

Injector nozzles in the cylinder

On another drawing you can see injection nozzles built into the cylinder. These fire directly into the combustion chamber. They should help to improve values in the areas of fuel consumption, performance and emissions. The engine should be able to adjust which injector is used to achieve the best performance, while consuming as little fuel as possible.

Honda has been working on supercharging for some time, but this is the most comprehensive and detailed design to date. It is safe to assume that it will actually be implemented in a production model.
