With the current model of the GSX-R1000, Suzuki also introduced variable valve control, which allowed a broader usable level of performance to be achieved. Even at lower speeds, more power was available without having to forego maximum performance at high speeds. Suzuki solved this very simply via the centrifugal force, which influences the valves depending on the engine speed.

Other manufacturers use computer-controlled hydraulics, so the changes are not only dependent on the speed. So you can adapt the changes to the throttle valve opening. BMW goes a little further and also changes the lift.

Suzuki chose the mechanical way because MotoGP prohibits the use of an electronic or hydraulic system. Of course, there is no such restriction for the road, and corresponding systems are permitted even in the WSBK.

As patent drawings show, Suzuki now wants to use a hydraulic system. Strictly speaking, corresponding drawings appeared some time ago, but the new drawings are much more advanced and look like they are ready for series production.

However, when the new Gixxer will come remains open.
