Ducati unveiled its latest top-of-the-line model, the Panigale V4 SP2, at its World Premiere today. It is primarily a racetrack motorcycle, but it may also be ridden on public roads.

The racetrack machine is produced in a numbered series, which means that each model is delivered with an embossed serial number on the triple clamp. However, there is apparently no limit on the number of units.

The sportiness of the Panigale V4 taken to the extreme

The Panigale V4 has already taken a big step in evolution for 2022. The “second Sport Production” (SP2) has been further improved in the areas of aerodynamics, ergonomics, engine, chassis and electronics.

It got a more powerful braking system, lightweight carbon rims, a lighter secondary drive through a narrower chain and dry clutch, racing footpegs and a lot of parts made of lightweight carbon fiber.

Engine and performance specs

The engine remained untouched compared to the latest evolutionary stage of the Panigale V4. It produces a Euro5-compliant 215.5 PS at 13,000 rpm. Compared to the 2021 model, that’s 1.5 PS or even 2.5 PS more at 14,500 rpm.

Those who want to boost performance even further for the racetrack can turn to the optionally offered Akrapovic titanium racing exhaust. This reduces the weight of the SP2 by 5 kg to 168 kg (dry) and increases power to 228 PS and torque to 131 Nm.

SBK technology

The new V4 has already been given a more track-oriented gearbox. The SP2 also gets a lighter secondary drive with the 520 chain and STM-EVO SBK dry clutch. The dry clutch allows the anti-hopping to work more effectively even under extreme use. In addition, you can also “mechanically” affect the engine braking by installing other secondary springs from the Ducati Performance accessories catalog.

Weight reduction and new features

The use of the carbon rims in a 5-twin-spoke design saves 1.4 kg compared to the Panigale V4 S. This reduces inertia by 26% at the front and 46% at the rear, which benefits agility.

New are the Brembo Stylema R calipers, which are said to offer very high braking power combined with exceptional endurance. As a result, readjustment is not needed as quickly in the event of constant heavy braking on the race track. The calipers are actuated by a Brembo MCS (Multiple Click System) radial pump. This allows the gear ratio to be adjusted individually to give the rider a better braking feel.

Brake and clutch levers have been milled out at the ends to reduce drag. The brake lever travel can be fine-tuned via a rotary dial.

Also mounted were adjustable anodized aluminum footpegs from Rizoma and carbon heel guards. Fully adjustable riding modes are of course also not missing in the SP2.

Color scheme, availability

The SP2 is offered exclusively in the special “Winter Test” paint scheme. A matte black is combined here with a matte carbon finish on the rims and wings. Some accents have been added in red and the tank has been designed with brushed aluminum.

At dealers, the Ducati Panigale V4 SP2 will be available from March.
