First details of the 500SR engine
According to the published patent applications, the engine of the 500SR is a completely new design from CFMoto. The engine is an in-line four-cylinder with a chain-driven DOHC arrangement (double overhead camshaft) and four valves per cylinder. A special feature is that the chain for the camshafts is positioned at one end of the crankshaft. The engine also has an ignition coil arrangement directly on the spark plugs.
The engine is equipped with a conventional six-speed gearbox and a wet sump. The latter is slightly offset to make room for the exhaust system running underneath. Performance data is not yet officially known, but it is expected that the 500SR will achieve a maximum output of around 80 hp (78 hp, 59 kW). This would put it in the same power class as the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR, which produces 76 hp (75 hp, 56 kW).
The 500SR is expected to be launched later this year and could be an interesting addition to CFMoto’s current model range, which already includes the 675SR with its 675cc three-cylinder and the 450SR (450SS in the USA) with a 449cc two-cylinder.
