More than 350,000 copies of the Monster have been produced since the first presentation. This makes it Ducati’s best-selling model. Now they have introduced the new Monster.
The new Monster is designed to represent the essence of Ducati in the lightest, most compact and essential form.
Larger engine, more power
It is powered by the Testastretta 11° 937cc twin cylinder with desmodromic valve timing. As the displacement increased, so did the power and torque. It delivers 111 PS at 9,250 rpm and 93 Nm at 6,500 rpm, naturally Euro 5 compliant. More power is available over the entire speed range, especially in the lower to medium speed range. The weight was reduced by 2.4 kg.
There will also be an A2 version, which can be throttled down to 35 kW in accordance with European regulations. This means that the power output must not exceed 95 PS.
The transmission is also new. Via quickshifter incl. blipper function, the gears can be shifted up and down without using the clutch.
Less weight on the scales
For maximum driving pleasure, the engineers worked on saving as much weight as possible, so the chassis, accessories and superstructures were redesigned from scratch. The aluminum front frame was based on the Panigale V4 concept. It was designed short and attached directly to the cylinder heads. 4.5 kg could be saved compared to the previous tubular frame.
With the rims one saved 1.7 kg and with the swing arm 1.6 kg. The rear subframe was made using GRP technology and is therefore 1.9 kg lighter.
In total, the dry weight was reduced to 166 kg, a saving of 18 kg compared to the Monster 821.
Ergonomics
The seat height is 820 mm. The narrow sides of the new Monster also make it easy to get your feet on the ground. As an option there is a lower seat, with which you can reduce the seat height to 800mm. To lower it even further, a lowering kit is also available, which makes it possible to reach 775mm.
The riding position was made more upright, therefore the handlebars were positioned 7cm closer to the rider. Also the position of the footrests has been changed to reduce the angle of the legs. These measures should allow for better handling and a more intuitive ride.
Technical features
Cornering ABS, traction control and wheelie control are standard equipment, all of which are adjustable in various stages. The sporty character should be underlined by the Launch Control. The driving modes Sport, Urban and Touring are available.
The different modes can be set via the 4.3-inch TFT color display.
Optional accessories
There are different sticker kits available to emphasize the shapes of the monsters. To emphasize the character of the monsters even more, cover kits will also be available.
Various performance accessories will also be available.
The new Monster will be available in the colors Ducati Red, Aviator Grey and Dark Stealth. In the same color variations, the Plus version will also be available, with an aerodynamic cockpit fairing and passenger seat cover.
The new Ducati Monster will be available in the showrooms from April 2021.
