CFMoto has announced a major recall in the Americas for some of its motorcycle models, specifically the 700 CL-X range from 2022 to 2023.  The reason for this recall is a potential problem with the programming of the motorcycles' anti-lock braking system (ABS).  Faulty ABS can lead to a delayed braking response, particularly when the brake lever is applied multiple times, which can significantly affect rider safety.

CFMoto initiates proactive measures

As part of the mandatory warranty bulletin (WAR-2023-07), CFMoto is requiring all U.S. dealers to update the ABS software on all sold and unsold 700 CL-X units.  It is estimated that a total of 1,374 units are affected by this recall.

Identifying affected models

The following information will help identify if your motorcycle is affected by the recall:

  • Production dates: January 20, 2022 to February 2, 2023
  • VIN range 1: LCEPEWL19N6002261 to LCEPEWL17N6005578
  • VIN range 2: LCEPEWL14P6001067 to LCEPEWL16P6002530
  • Description of the problem

The affected models may have a problem with the ABS control unit.  This could lead to a delay in the brake response, especially if the brake lever is actuated several times.  Such a delay can significantly increase the braking distance and increase the risk of an accident.

Recommended measures for owners

CFMoto strongly advises not to use affected motorcycles until the problem has been rectified.  The problem will be corrected by the dealers at no cost to the owner other than transporting the motorcycle to the nearest authorized CFMoto dealer.  Dealers will only update the ABS software of the motorcycles.  Notification letters to owners should have been sent out by November 27, 2023, according to CFMoto.

Contact options for concerns

Notice to global markets

Although this recall originated in the United States, it is possible that other markets may be affected.  This is because motorcycles are often manufactured in one plant for different markets.
