QJMotor Super4: Mini Superveloce with MV Agusta genes

At first glance, the upcoming QJMotor Super4 is strongly reminiscent of the MV Agusta Superveloce. However, what appears to be a pure copy should be viewed in a broader context. QJMotor, which belongs to the Qianjiang Group, and MV Agusta have had close business ties for years. This has allowed QJMotor to draw on Italian design and technical components for earlier models.

Historical collaboration between QJMotor and MV Agusta

Back in 2023, QJMotor presented the Super9 in China, which was strongly reminiscent of MV both visually and technically. It used a 921 cc four-cylinder engine of an older MV design, as well as frame and swing arm constructions derived from the MV Agusta Brutale. Originally, this engine was even supposed to be used under the Benelli label before Qianjiang decided to expand its own QJMotor brand more strongly.

Conversely, it was planned that Qianjiang would support MV Agusta in the development of more affordable models. One result of this collaboration was the Lucky Explorer 5.5, which was unveiled in 2021 and was based on a two-cylinder engine from QJMotor. However, after KTM joined MV Agusta, the project was discontinued as KTM CEO Stefan Pierer focused on high-priced models.

Following KTM’s withdrawal, MV Agusta is now independent again, making such projects conceivable once more in the future.

Technical data of the QJMotor Super4

The new Super4 shows what a joint model policy could have looked like. The motorcycle is powered by a 449 cc parallel twin engine, which is already used in several QJMotor series.

  • Power: 52 hp (38 kW) at 9,500 rpm
  • Weight: 169 kg (373 lbs) ready to ride
  • Top speed: 190 km/h (118 mph)
  • Wheelbase: 1,390 mm (54.7 inches)

The Super4 shares its chassis with existing sports and naked bikes from QJMotor, but the fairing is clearly inspired by the MV Superveloce.

Italian design expertise

The lines may also seem familiar because QJMotor draws on the work of Italian design firm C-Creative. Behind this studio are former MV executives: Giovanni Castiglioni, former MV president, Adrian Morton, former chief designer at MV, and Paolo Bianchi, former head of the MV research center CRC.

Market launch and potential significance

The QJMotor Super4 has not yet been officially unveiled, but the homologation documents are already available. This means that a premiere at EICMA 2025 in Milan is likely, with series production starting in model year 2026.

The crucial question remains whether buyers would be willing to accept MV Agusta models in cooperation with QJMotor if such plans were to be revisited. Comparable examples such as the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 produced in India show that such a strategy can be quite successful.
