With the Yamaha XSR900 GP 2026, the manufacturer is launching a special model that pays tribute to one of the most influential figures in motorcycle racing: Kenny Roberts. The XSR900 GP is the new top model in the Sport Heritage series and combines modern technology with a clear retro design reminiscent of the Grand Prix machines of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Legend Yellow: Colors and design from the golden age of racing

For the 2026 model year, the XSR900 GP is available in two color options: Legend Yellow and Legend Red. The Legend Yellow variant stands out with its distinctive black-on-white speed block graphics, which adorned Yamaha’s factory race bikes in the 1970s and 1980s. This design is closely associated with Kenny Roberts, the first American to win a 500cc world championship title, who won a total of three world championships in this class between 1978 and 1980.

The new Legend Yellow paintwork is intended to be a direct reminder of the YZR500 models of that era and combines classic looks with modern lines. Yamaha describes the XSR900 GP as a motorcycle that combines tradition and innovation in one model.

Limited production run – high demand expected

The XSR900 GP in Legend Yellow is being released as a strictly limited special edition model. According to Yamaha, the number of units available for the German market will be so small that rapid availability is unlikely. Individual numbering is not planned, but the limited production run will be clearly communicated. It is not yet known how many units will ultimately be available.

Technology and equipment: modern base, proven drive

The technical basis of the Yamaha XSR900 GP 2026 continues to be the MT-09 platform. The model features an aluminum frame and the familiar CP3 three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 890 cm³. The power output is 119 hp (87.5 kW) at 10,000 rpm, and according to current information, the maximum torque is identical to the standard version (value not available according to reference). The total weight is 200 kg (440.9 lbs) with a full 14-liter tank.

The chassis components are from Kayaba (KYB): a fully adjustable upside-down telescopic fork and a fully adjustable shock absorber are standard equipment. Yamaha has not made any changes to the electronics – the GP version also features the modern assistance systems of the XSR900 series.

Market launch and pricing

The market launch of the XSR900 GP in Legend Yellow is announced for the second quarter of 2026. Delivery will begin in April at the earliest. German buyers will be particularly pleased to hear that the price remains unchanged. According to Yamaha, the Kenny Roberts Edition costs €14,149 (approx. $14,950, depending on the exchange rate) including additional costs. The Legend Red variant will also remain in the range at the same price.

The XSR900 GP will make its UK debut at the Yamaha exhibition area in Hall 4 of the Motorcycle Live show. Further details on pricing and availability will be announced at this event.
