Information from registration documents
The information about the new motorcycles comes from documents issued by the California Air Resources Board, as reported by US journalist Dennis Chung from Motorcycle.com. These documents list two new model variants within the Street Triple 765 family, suggesting that they will be released soon.
Positioning within the model range
Until now, the Street Triple 765 series has consisted of two versions: the more everyday-oriented R and the sportier RS. With the introduction of an RX version, Triumph could close the gap between these two models or even above the RS. The addition of “RX” is not new – a Speed Triple 1200 RX was already introduced as a limited special edition model in the spring.
Technical borrowings from the Speed Triple RX?
It remains to be seen whether the Street Triple RX will have similar features to its big sister, the Speed Triple RX. Among other things, the Speed Triple RX comes with electronic Öhlins suspension and an Akrapovic rear silencer as standard. It is possible that these components will be carried over to the Street Triple RX, although no official technical details are available yet.
Limited production likely
If Triumph follows the strategy of the Speed Triple RX, limited production can also be expected for the Street Triple RX. While the Speed Triple RX was limited to 1,200 units, it seems likely that the Street Triple RX could be released in a limited edition of 765 units worldwide – a nod to the model name.
Moto2 Edition as the top model?
In addition to the RX version, a new Moto2 Edition is also said to be in the works. This variant could position itself as the most powerful and highest-quality model in the entire Street Triple 765 family. Triumph has already introduced a Moto2 Edition in the past as a tribute to its own involvement in the racing series of the same name. It is not yet clear whether the new version will be more closely based on the racing machines in terms of technology or appearance.
Possible presentation in November
A conceivable date for the official presentation of the new special models would be EICMA in November. The motorcycle show in Milan is considered one of the most important platforms for new products in the industry and would be an obvious setting for such a premiere.
