After announcing its withdrawal from motorsport, the Japanese manufacturer has now surprised everyone by deciding to compete in the prestigious race with an environmentally friendly fuel. The GSX-R1000, Suzuki’s super sports bike, will run on a fuel that comes from 40% bio-based sources.
A race with an experimental character
The Suzuka 8 Hours, an integral part of the FIM Endurance World Championship calendar, offers an experimental class for motorcycles that do not adhere to conventional engineering standards. While Suzuki’s GSX-R1000 complies with the standards, it sets itself apart by using Elf Moto R40 FIM fuel. This consists of 40% bio-based components. An interesting aspect of this is that Suzuki’s MotoGP team already used this fuel in their last season in 2022 as part of the specifications set by the FIM and Dorna.
The use of this fuel does not appear to mean any loss of performance
Team and technology in the focus of sustainability
Suzuki has not yet commented on the rider line-up. Sylvain Guintoli, the long-time rider of Suzuki’s Endurance Championship team, has already signed a contract as a test rider with the BMW Motorrad Motorsport WorldSBK team. Suzuki will compete under the Team Suzuki CN Challenge banner, a departure from its long-standing partnership with Yoshimura SERT Motul Suzuki. However, Yoshimura Japan will remain as a technical partner of the factory, using the platform to develop sustainable technologies in areas such as exhaust, tires, oil, fairings and brakes.
