The Suzuki GSX-S1000GX, equipped with a semi-active chassis and an engine heritage from racing, represents Suzuki's entry into a technologically advanced era of crossover motorcycles, offering a combination of safety, performance and comfort that will be launched in January 2024.

Semi-active chassis and high-tech features for Suzuki’s crossover model

Milan could be synonymous with design and innovation – a fitting backdrop for the unveiling of the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX.  As a new addition to the crossover class, this motorcycle promises to deliver a very special riding experience that is as much about adrenaline rushes as it is about comfort.  The integration of a semi-active chassis in a Suzuki motorcycle is a first for the Japanese manufacturer.

Between sportiness and suitability for everyday use: The engine of the GSX-S1000GX

At the heart of the bike beats a sporty engine based on the race-proven four-cylinder engine of the GSX-R1000, but modified for everyday performance.  The 999 cc engine develops an impressive 152 hp (112 kW or 150 hp) and a torque of 106 Nm at 9,250 rpm.  A remarkably wide rev range is noticeable both when accelerating and in terms of stability.  This harmonious power package is supported by an anti-hopping clutch, which prevents excessive braking of the rear wheel when downshifting.

Suzuki Intelligent Riding System (S.I.R.S.): The intelligence behind the power

The intelligence of the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX is not only reflected in the sheer power development of its engine, but also in the sophisticated electronics, which are summarized under the abbreviation S.I.R.S..  This technology is at the heart of the safety and performance features offered by the motorcycle.  Using data from a 6-axis IMU, the motorcycle reacts sensitively to riding dynamics and also adapts to lean angles, giving the rider a new level of control and safety.

In addition, the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector Alpha (SDMS-α) allows the motorcycle to be precisely adapted to the rider’s needs and preferences.  Three different riding modes influence the characteristics of the powerful four-cylinder engine, the intensity of the traction control and the configuration of the electronic chassis.  For those who like it even more personal, S.I.R.S. offers the option of individually modifying these settings.

A particular highlight of the S.I.R.S. package is Roll Torque Control.  This uses the data recorded by the IMU on lean angle movements and wheel speeds to optimize power transmission in close cooperation with the traction control. The aim is to minimize the risk of skidding when cornering and thus make driving even safer.

An ensemble of assistants for safety and comfort

In addition to the smart traction control system, the assistance systems also include a bi-directional Quick Shift system for fast gear changes and adaptive cruise control for relaxed long journeys.  There are also safety systems such as the Motion Track Brake System, which enables safe braking even when leaning, as well as other systems that prevent the rear wheel from lifting off when driving downhill, for example.

The most important assistance systems of the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX at a glance

  • Smart TLR Control
    • Traction control with integrated wheelie and roll torque control
  • Bi-directional Quick-Shift system
    • Lightning-fast gear changes without manual clutch operation
  • Smart Cruise Control
    • For relaxed driving at a constant speed on long journeys; upshifting and downshifting possible with active cruise control.
  • Motion Track Brake System
    • Safe braking even on slopes
  • Slope Dependent Control System
    • Prevents the rear wheel from lifting when braking downhill
  • Suzuki Easy Start System
    • One-touch engine start without clutch operation
  • Low RPM Assist
    • Smooth starting thanks to automatic speed increase

Suspension: comfort meets adaptability

The GSX-S1000GX marks a turning point in Suzuki’s history by becoming the first motorcycle from the manufacturer to be equipped with SAES, a semi-active suspension system.  This technological innovation expands the concept of comfort by offering a variety of settings for optimized performance ranging from sporty riding to touring.

SAES sets itself apart from conventional systems through intelligent technologies.  It utilizes Suzuki’s innovative Floating Ride Control (SFRC), which responds to changes in the road surface based on skyhook theory to ensure a consistent ride.  In addition, Suzuki Velocity Dependent Control (SVDC) dynamically adjusts damping to the speed of the vehicle, while Suzuki Deceleration Damping Control (SDDC) compensates for front wheel dive under braking.

The ability of the SAES to offer a high level of comfort even on very uneven roads is supported by long suspension travel of 150 millimetres at both the front and rear.  This contributes to high riding stability and makes the GSX-S1000GX a safe and comfortable companion even at higher speeds.

Another feature of the SAES is the electronic adjustment of the spring preload.  With a total of four modes, the rider can adjust the spring preload of the central shock absorber to suit the situation.  The AUTO mode, which automatically adjusts the motorcycle level and damping to the load, is particularly practical.  In addition, the manual modes allow even more individual adjustment in up to eight steps, giving the rider a precise riding experience to suit their personal taste.

Wheels and tires

The lightweight cast aluminum wheels, adorned with a six-spoke design, are fitted with specially tuned Dunlop SPORTMAX Roadsport 2 radial tires.  This combination is designed to ensure agile handling and excellent road grip.

Luxurious comfort on any terrain

Suzuki has thought of every aspect of rider comfort on the GSX-S1000GX, from the ergonomic seating position to the vibration-damping mounting of the engine and handlebars.  A streamlined design rounds off the package.

State-of-the-art connectivity

The smartphone can be connected to a 6.5-inch color display so that functions such as telephony or navigation can be operated directly via the motorcycle.

Availability and pricing

From January 2024, the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX will be available in three color variants at a price of 17,400 euros (Germany).  The color options include the classic yet sporty Metallic Triton Blue, the elegant and deep Glass Sparkle Black and the striking and stylish Pearl Mat Shadow Green.
