TVS focuses on growth and technological excellence
TVS Motor Company, one of the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturers based in India, acquired Norton in 2020 and immediately began investing heavily in the brand. The state-of-the-art factory in Solihull, which opened in November 2021, initially formed the basis for the production of the newly launched 961 Commando and V4 models. This production has since been discontinued to make way for a new generation of models.
With a current total investment of more than £200 million (approx. €230 million/$245 million) and a 25 percent increase in its workforce in 2025, Norton is pursuing its goal of positioning the British brand as an international premium supplier. According to the company, the realignment is intended to create a “global center for design, development, and manufacturing.”
Nevijo Mance, member of Norton’s executive management team, commented: “By investing in advanced British manufacturing, we are ensuring that Norton continues to set the standard in design, engineering, technology, and performance. With the support of TVS, we are laying the foundations for long-term success and global growth for the Norton business.”
Outlook for the new V4 and the upcoming model range
A central element of the new direction is the upcoming V4 superbike generation. The first prototypes of the Euro 5-compliant V4 have already been spotted in the UK. Visually, the new model is clearly inspired by modern superbikes with sharp lines, dual LED headlights, and aerodynamic full fairing. Norton is thus moving away from the classic retro look and instead focusing on a progressive design reminiscent of the Ducati Panigale.
Under the fairing is a newly developed frame, accompanied by a striking single-sided swing arm design and forged OZ wheels. Technical highlights include Brembo Hypure brake calipers, which are designed to provide improved deceleration. Another indication of the V4’s target direction is the placement of the two exhaust systems running under the rear and the fresh air intakes at the front. Industry insiders suspect that the engine may have a larger displacement than the previous 1,199 cc V4 unit in order to compete with current superbikes beyond the 200 hp (147 kW) mark. Official performance data has not yet been released.
The market launch of the new V4 and other models is expected in November 2025. According to Norton, a total of six new models are in the pipeline and will be presented gradually.
Tradition and future: Norton repositions itself
Norton, founded in Birmingham in 1898, was able to build its reputation primarily through successes at the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy and on European racetracks. Models such as the Manx, the Commando, and the rotary engines of the 1980s had a lasting impact on the company’s image. However, the past decades have been marked by numerous changes of ownership and economic difficulties. With the takeover by TVS Motor Company and the current investments, Norton now wants to build on its glorious past while meeting the demands of a global market.
Production at the Solihull site will continue to emphasize the British heritage, but with new technology and an international focus, it will appeal to a broader target group. The aim is to play a significant role again both on the domestic market and internationally with modern and powerful models such as the new V4.
