A start in Brno next weekend is extremely questionable for world champion Marc Marquez, because he had to undergo another operation.
Marc Marquez broke his upper arm in a violent crash in the first race of MotoGP 2020 in Jerez. He was operated by Dr. Mir a few days later. A titanium plate was used to stabilize the bone. This now appears to have been damaged by excessive stress.
Just a few days after the operation, Marquez got back on the MotoGP machine and tried to take part in the second Jerez weekend. He missed the Friday trainings, but got on his bike on Saturday. However, he stopped in qualifying because the pain was too big. He probably damaged the titanium plate in the training.
The second operation was again carried out by Dr. Mir at the Dexeus University Clinic in Barcelona. The world champion must stay in the hospital for at least 48 hours. This means that a start at the race in Brno is very unlikely.
Dr. Mir: “Marc Marquez was operated on 13 days ago and today he returned to the operating room. The first operation was a success. However, the titanium plate was not expected to be inadequate. An accumulation of stresses in the operated area has led to this that the plate was damaged, so today the titanium plate was removed and replaced with a new fixation.
The driver has not had any pain so far. He always followed the medical advice and listened to the feeling of his body. Unfortunately, too much stress has triggered this problem. Now we have to wait 48 hours before we can say more about the recovery time.”
