Familiar platform as the basis
Although it is a new model, the electric sports bike has clear parallels with the EV Fun. At first glance, the single-sided swing arm is almost identical to that of the naked version. There are also recognizable similarities in the brake components and the front fork. Although the latter is partially covered on the sports concept, it appears to use the same base as its sister model.
These similarities suggest that the battery unit and the frame have also been largely adopted. If this is the case, the new sports model could also be compatible with the CCS2 charging system – the same fast-charging standard used by many electric cars. The range should then also be in the region of 100 kilometers (approx. 60 miles).
Transparent cladding as an eye-catcher
One striking difference to the EV Fun is the cladding of the new model. Here, Honda has opted for an unusual design with large transparent plastic surfaces through which chassis components and parts of the frame can be seen. In this way, Honda not only creates a futuristic look, but also deliberately draws attention to the technology under the cover.
Honda’s electrification strategy until 2025
The presentation of this new study is another piece of the puzzle in Honda’s long-term electromobility plan. Back in 2022, the company announced its intention to launch a total of ten new electric motorcycles on the market by 2025 – with the long-term goal of achieving complete climate neutrality by 2050.
The focus remains on lighter vehicles such as mopeds and scooters. These are not only cheaper and quicker to develop, but also meet with a high level of acceptance, particularly on Asian markets. In regions such as China, India and Indonesia, electric two-wheelers are already much more widespread than in Europe or North America.
Technical specifications still open
Honda has not yet provided specific performance data, such as engine output in horsepower (kW), torque in Newton meters (Nm) or the exact weight (kg/lbs). However, due to the platform similarity with the EV Fun, similar values could result. As soon as further details are known, a more detailed technical classification can be expected.
Conclusion
With the presentation of the new electric sports concept in Beijing, Honda shows that the Group is taking its announcements on electrification seriously. The new model draws on familiar technology, but its unusual design brings a breath of fresh air to the growing electric motorcycle segment. Whether and when a production version will follow remains to be seen.
