Roland Sands Custom has taken the Indian Chieftain and literally trimmed it to old.
The 1,890cc two-cylinder Thunderstroke engine with its 88 PS and 162 Nm was converted from fuel injection to carburetor, more precisely to a flat slide carburetor from Mikuni. The tear-drop air filter is from a 1946 Indian, and the exhaust gases are routed through a custom exhaust system.
The tank, steering head, fork and handlebars are also from the ’46 Chief. The frame was built around the engine and is only partially from the Chief. The joints were brazed to achieve an authentic oldschool look. The swingarm and wheels were made in-house.
To trim the look even more to old, all metal parts were treated with a mixture of primer, salt, hydrogen peroxide and black paint. The parts were then cleaned and sealed with linseed oil. This was done to achieve the look of a barn find.
