When you think of boxer engines, the name BMW almost automatically springs to mind. But although the Munich-based company shaped the engine type, the boxer was never exclusively theirs. As early as the First World War, British brands such as ABC and Douglas attracted attention with transversely mounted two-cylinder engines. BMW set its own standards with the R32 in 1923 - and thus shaped today's image of the longitudinally mounted boxer. Imitations such as the Ural and Dnepr from the former Soviet Union or the Chinese Chang Jiang CJ750 followed. Even Harley-Davidson experimented with the XA during the Second World War.

The bad news continues at KTM: Just six weeks after the restart of production, the plant in Mattighofen is once again at a standstill. CEO Gottfried Neumeister announced in a video message that production will be paused from April 28, 2025 and is not expected to resume until July 27, 2025. The main reason for this is the lack of components as a result of the insolvency at the end of 2024.

EU ban on carbon fiber off the table for now – Why the material almost ended up on the deletion list

The material is used in motorcycles, sports cars and increasingly also in everyday vehicles. This made the news that the European Union was planning a possible ban on carbon fiber all the more surprising. However, the tide has now turned: A current EU draft renounces the inclusion of the material in the list of banned substances. But why was carbon fiber up for debate in the first place?
