Name change and management restructuring: Pierer Mobility AG becomes Bajaj Mobility AG

Pierer Mobility AG, previously the parent company of KTM, Husqvarna, and GASGAS, is facing a fundamental change. An extraordinary general meeting is scheduled for November 19, 2025, at which the renaming of the company to “Bajaj Mobility AG” is to be decided. However, this change will only take effect if the planned takeover by Bajaj is not prohibited under the provisions of EU Regulation 2022/2560.

As part of this restructuring, all supervisory board members appointed by Pierer are also to resign. New members, including Pradeep Shrivastava and Wulf Gordian Hauser, are being proposed for the smaller supervisory board. Details of the annual general meeting and the planned appointments were published on October 29, 2025, on the company’s website in the Investor Relations section.

Background: Financial rescue and new ownership structure

The planned changes are the result of a profound upheaval within the company. Following a sharp decline in demand and a significant increase in inventories, KTM filed for insolvency in November 2024. The Indian Bajaj Group stepped in as a strategic investor and secured the survival of the long-established motorcycle brand with a capital injection of around 800 million euros (approximately 857 million US dollars) in spring 2025.

Even before the takeover, Bajaj held a significant minority stake in Pierer Mobility. With the impending takeover, Bajaj is taking control of the company and initiating a profound change in the group’s structure.

Impact on the brand, supervisory board, and location

In the wake of the change in control, not only will supervisory board positions be filled, but the company’s headquarters will also be up for discussion. The current location on Edisonstraße in Wels, where a real estate company owned by Stefan Pierer is a contractual partner, is to be abandoned. In the future, the company plans to concentrate its operations at the headquarters of KTM AG in Mattighofen.

With the renaming to “Bajaj Mobility AG,” the name of Stefan Pierer, who was largely responsible for the group’s rise, will also disappear from the company name. According to the company, the aim of these measures is to make the structures more efficient and the company more competitive for the future. The focus is particularly on savings in marketing and administration, rather than in actual production.

Sales development and strategic future orientation

In the 2024 financial year, KTM recorded a significant decline in sales: with 292,497 motorcycles sold worldwide, the result was 21 percent below the previous year (372,511 units). Around 110,000 motorcycles were sold in Europe, which corresponds to a 38 percent share of total sales. Other important markets are the USA and India. Sales in 2024 amounted to approximately 1.879 billion euros (approx. 2.014 billion US dollars).

Following its successful restructuring, the company appears to be able to rely on its loyal fan base. In the first half of 2025, more than 100,000 motorcycles were sold worldwide, exceeding expectations.

Significance for KTM, Husqvarna, and GASGAS

The change at the top of Pierer Mobility AG marks a profound turning point. With the planned name change and the departure of the previous supervisory board members, the Pierer era is considered to be over. The traditional brands KTM, Husqvarna, and GASGAS will remain, but will be managed under the umbrella of an Indian parent company in the future. While some see this as the end of an era, others emphasize the logical consequence and global potential of the merger.

The further implications of the takeover, particularly with regard to strategic decisions and brand management, will depend largely on the outcome of regulatory reviews. The group thus finds itself at a turning point, the development of which is likely to continue to be closely monitored by many market observers.
