Rumors about a KTM engine with 490cc have been around for a long time and KTM boss Pierer has already confirmed the work in 2018. Now rumors have surfaced that the new engine will power five different models next year.
Are KTM 490 models coming?
The two-cylinder engine with 490cc should have four-valve technology, two overhead camshafts, six-speed gearbox and servo clutch. The production should be in India at KTM cooperation partner Bajaj. We speak of a power of 55 to 60 hp.
By mapping and gear ratio, the power output should be adapted to the corresponding model.
Supposedly, a 490 Duke, RC 490, 490 Adventure, 490 Supermoto and 490 Enduro will come. But if one look at the spy-images of the upcoming RC, then the engine resembles extremely to the current 390er engine.
Whether that means now that there will be no RC 490, or whether the new RC was equipped with the old engine, one can not say.
