Valentino Rossi was already taking his time deciding whether he would compete in MotoGP in 2021. He wanted to wait until the first races of the season 2020. The Corona pandemic didn’t quite play into that, but Rossi stayed. Whether Rossi will also compete in 2022, he also wants to decide later.
Decision will still take time
Strictly speaking, Rossi doesn’t want to decide until halfway through the season. It depends on whether he will still enjoy racing and how competitive he will be.
His current contract with Petronas SRT runs for one year. He would certainly have the opportunity to extend the contract, but could also look for other teams.
VR46 in MotoGP
However, his racing team VR46 would certainly also be an option, whether as a rider or simply as a team manager. VR46 plans to compete in MotoGP with several bikes. This year VR46 will also make its first appearance in the premier class. Rossi’s half-brother Luca Marini will wear the corresponding colors and compete with the Avintia Team’s Ducati.
