QJMotor has unveiled the Super9, a new superbike that not only looks a lot like the MV Agusta Superveloce 1000.  However, there is more behind it than just a visual imitation.  In fact, the Super9 is the result of a cooperation between MV Agusta and QJMotor's parent company Qianjiang, which dates back to 2020.  This partnership enables QJMotor to manufacture and distribute motorcycles based on MV Agusta's technology for the Chinese market.

A partnership with a long history

The first step of this cooperation was initiated by Timur Sardarov, the former CEO of MV Agusta, and Dongshao Guo, the CEO of Qianjiang Motor.  The aim was to distribute MV Agusta motorcycles in China and to produce more affordable models manufactured in China in the future.  This included not only machines under the MV Agusta name, but also models from Benelli and QJMotor based on the four-cylinder engines developed by MV Agusta.

A prominent example of the collaboration was the planned MV Agusta Lucky Explorer 5.5, which was developed on a QJMotor platform.  However, this project was dropped when KTM acquired a 25.1% stake in MV Agusta in 2022 – a stake that has since grown to 50.1%.  Although KTM itself is closely associated with the Chinese brand CFMoto, the QJMotor-MV projects in China have continued to make progress.

The QJMotor Super9 and its Italian heart

The QJMotor Super9 is based on a 921cc four-cylinder engine originally developed by MV Agusta and now produced under license in China.  This engine, which has already been used in models such as the MV Brutale 920, delivers a peak output of 127 hp (93.5 kW) at 10,000 rpm in the Super9.  This gives the motorcycle enough power to meet the demands of the target group.

The engine of the Super9 comes from the 921cc unit used in the Brutale 920 in 2011 and 2012 and shows how deep the technical links with MV Agusta go.  The frame of the Super9 is also very similar to that of the MV Agusta Brutale models, including the single-sided swingarm.

Design and equipment

Visually, the Super9 is clearly based on the MV Agusta Superveloce 1000, with the side winglets and fairing being particularly striking and strongly reminiscent of the Italian model.  The exhaust, with its four stacked tailpipes on the right-hand side, also pays homage to the design of the Superveloce 800.

Technically, the Super9 comes with a fully adjustable Marzocchi fork, an adjustable spring strut and steering damper.  These components are produced by Qianjiang itself under the Marzocchi brand.  Deceleration is provided by radially mounted Brembo brakes, which are designed for high performance.  A TFT color display is also part of the standard equipment, along with extensive electronic equipment.

The Super9 weighs in at 208 kg (459 pounds), which makes it around 7 kg lighter than its sister model, the SRK921RR.  In terms of wheelbase, it comes in at 1425 mm (56.1 inches), which should ensure stable road holding.

Market launch and pricing

The Super9 was presented at this year’s CIMA trade fair in China and simultaneously approved by the Chinese government.  An official price has not yet been announced, but a look at the sister model SRK921RR could shed some light on this.  This is being offered in China for 69,999 yuan (approx. 8,960 euros, 9,500 USD).  It is to be expected that the Super9 will be in a similar price segment.

Further QJMotor models in the pipeline

In addition to the Super9, QJMotor is planning to launch further four-cylinder motorcycles, including the SRK700RR.  This model has a 680cc four-cylinder engine, but the smaller displacement is accompanied by a higher output of 100 hp (73.5 kW).  Here too, the technical equipment with Marzocchi suspension and Brembo brakes remains identical to the SRK800RR, which is already being used in the World Supersport Championship.

Conclusion

With the Super9, QJMotor is bringing another model onto the market that is heavily influenced by MV Agusta’s technology and design.  The cooperation between QJMotor and MV Agusta shows how strongly the Chinese market for larger motorcycles is growing and how important partnerships have become in the international motorcycle industry.
