Technical specifications: Small but mighty
The Thruxton 400, which is being developed as part of the Triumph-Bajaj partnership, is to be based on the already well-known Speed 400 / Scrambler 400 X. This collaboration has produced some results over the last six years, and it seems that Triumph will continue on this successful path with a café racer in the small displacement range.
Technically, the Thruxton 400 could be equipped with a 399 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing around 39.5 hp at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. This would make it a good choice for beginners and lovers of smaller motorcycles.
Design and ergonomics: retro meets modern
Compared to the Speed 400, the Thruxton 400 could have similar ergonomics and chassis features, but with some key differences. A similar riding position and non-adjustable 43 mm upside-down forks are expected, although it remains to be seen whether it will retain the 140 mm fender travel. The Thruxton 400 could also roll on the same 17-inch rims.
Stylistic accents: a touch of classicism
Design elements such as the iconic front radiator, which is reminiscent of the Thruxton RS, a slightly different tank shape as well as clip-on handlebars and handlebar end mirrors could also be part of the design. These features would give the Thruxton 400 an unmistakable, focused stance without requiring too extreme a riding position.
Market launch: still in the stars
While Triumph has made no official comment on these rumors, the near-market-ready details such as license plate holders, reflectors and the lack of data collection equipment suggest that the bike could be close to launch. The Thruxton 400 is expected to be launched in India first, with the possibility of pursuing similar distribution channels as the Speed 400 / Scrambler 400 X.
Conclusion: A promising newcomer
Overall, the Triumph Thruxton 400 appears to be an exciting new chapter in the history of café racers. With its combination of classic design and modern technology, it could appeal to both motorcycle newcomers and lovers of smaller, characterful machines.
