Six world premieres and numerous highlights
Yamaha is presenting six world premieres in Tokyo. The most important concept models include:
MOTOROiD:Λ – Autonomously learning mobility
With the MOTOROiD:Λ concept vehicle, Yamaha has been pursuing the goal of fundamentally changing the relationship between humans and machines since 2017. Thanks to AI-supported reinforcement learning, the new model should be able to learn autonomously and develop independently. After the virtual training phase, the system transfers the learned movement sequences to the real world. The lightweight exoskeleton structure is designed to withstand frequent falls during the learning process. Yamaha sees MOTOROiD:Λ as the next step toward a partnership between humans and machines and aims to redefine the understanding of two-wheeled mobility.
TRICERA proto – Three wheels, new riding experiences
The TRICERA proto concept is an open, three-wheeled electric vehicle equipped with a three-wheel steering system (3WS). This system connects the steering and drive to all three wheels, which is intended to provide a particularly agile and at the same time new steering feel. According to Yamaha, the focus is on the interplay between direct steering response and a particularly close connection between rider and vehicle. In addition, the “αlive AD” sound control provides an acoustic experience that is designed to enhance the riding experience.
PROTO BEV – Electric super sports bike with a new riding experience
The PROTO BEV is a battery-electric super sports concept that aims to combine riding pleasure with new riding characteristics. The model emphasizes low weight, compactness, and direct, linear drive response. The human-machine interface is designed to allow the driver to concentrate fully on the road. A sound device and visual displays support interaction and provide the user with an active driving experience.
H2 Buddy Porter Concept – Hydrogen for urban mobility
The H2 Buddy Porter Concept was developed in collaboration with Toyota and features a hydrogen-powered engine equipped with a compact high-pressure tank for motorcycles. According to Yamaha, the concept vehicle has a range of over 100 km on a single tank of fuel. The technology complies with the current Euro 5 emissions standards, which should also allow it to be used on European roads. The aim is to establish hydrogen drives as a realistic alternative for urban delivery services.
Y-00B: Base and Bricolage – e-bikes for individualists
The Y-00B: Base is a minimalist e-bike concept that offers a high degree of customization. Owners can customize the slim dual-twin frame design and electronics to suit their own preferences. The Bricolage variant is designed as a tribute to the first Yamaha motorcycle, the YA-1 from 1955, and combines classic style elements with modern technology.
Other concepts and special exhibitions
In addition to the world premieres, Yamaha is showcasing numerous other models and technical innovations:
- e-Axle: A compact electric drive for the automotive sector, designed for voltages from 350 to 800 volts and outputs from 200 kW (272 hp) to 450 kW (612 hp).
- PROTO HEV: A hybrid prototype that can switch between a quiet “Serene” and a sporty “Spirited” driving mode. The combination of an electric motor and a combustion engine is expected to achieve a reduction in fuel consumption of over 35 percent (compared to similar models).
- PROTO PHEV: A concept for large motorcycles that flexibly combines a combustion engine and electric motor, enabling hybrid or pure electric drive.
- NACTUS VS TRE-X: An electric three-wheel wheelchair with JWX-2 drive unit, large 26-inch off-road tires, and robust design for rough terrain.
- ONE-MAX Urban / Historical: Electrically assisted wheelchairs with a flexible design for city traffic and historic city districts.
Focus on music, sound, and innovation
A special feature of the Yamaha booth is the collaboration with Yamaha Corporation. Hatsune Miku, known from the VOCALOID series, provides the musical entertainment at the booth. Innovative musical instruments such as electronic drum pads, hybrid pianos, and immersive sound systems are also on display. Sound xR technology creates a spatial sound environment.
A look into the future: Other exhibition areas
Outside the main booth, Yamaha is also participating in the Tokyo Future Tour 2035, presenting innovative concepts such as the MOTOLATOR_U and various DIAPASON models. The “Mobility Culture” area will also feature special vehicles such as the YZR500 (0W76), the DRIVE H2 golf cart with hydrogen engine, and various light vehicles.
Conclusion
At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Yamaha is setting clear priorities in terms of electric mobility, hydrogen propulsion, human-machine interaction, and musical innovation. The wide range of concepts and special exhibits illustrates the company’s broad-based strategy. It remains to be seen whether the models and technologies on display will go into series production in the future, but the direction is clearly focused on the future.
