Technical data: High-revving four-cylinder engine
The heart of the Voge RR500S is a 475 cm³ inline four-cylinder engine that revs up to 14,000 rpm. The engine delivers 74 hp (54.4 kW) and develops a maximum torque of 46 Nm. By comparison, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R achieves similar performance figures but offers slightly less torque.
Special features: Electrically controlled exhaust flap
A technical highlight of the RR500S is the electrically controlled exhaust flap. Unlike many other systems, it is not controlled automatically, but can be opened or closed by the rider at the touch of a button. According to the manufacturer, this function is not so much intended to increase performance as to reduce noise in city traffic. In sport mode, the flap can be opened for a distinctive engine sound.
Chassis and brakes: Simple but solid technology
The chassis of the RR500S features a non-adjustable front fork and a rear shock absorber, which can presumably only be adjusted in terms of spring preload. Deceleration is provided by four-piston calipers from Nissin at the front and an older single-piston brake at the rear. ABS and two-channel traction control are standard features. According to reports from China, a technically upgraded version is in the works that could offer additional assistance systems.
Weight and comparison with the competition
With a curb weight of 198 kg (436.5 lbs), the Voge RR500S is slightly heavier than the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R, which weighs 189 kg (417.8 lbs). Nevertheless, the RR500S’s extra torque is said to offer advantages, especially in road use.
Price: A challenge from China
In China, the Voge RR500S is available at prices between £3,000 and £3,500 (approximately €3,550 to €4,150 or $3,900 to $4,550). This positions the RR500S significantly below most competitors with similar technology in terms of price.
