Innovative racing suit without leather: Virus Power sets new standards in protection and sustainability

There is a lot going on in motorcycle racing at the moment – and not just on the racetrack. The trend toward greater sustainability is also affecting riders' protective gear. While electric motorcycles and environmentally friendly cleaning products are no longer a rarity, an Italian manufacturer is now showing how high-tech textiles and maximum safety can be combined. We are talking about Virus Power from Prato, Italy.

No leather, maximum safety

Virus Power is a relatively new brand that emerged from the experienced occupational safety company Pri.Ma.Tex. The manufacturer uses only animal-free materials in its new racing suits and completely avoids leather. Instead, a specially developed textile called MultiProtective forms the basis. According to the manufacturer, this material offers up to twelve times more protection than is currently required by motorcycle safety standards.

A unique selling point: the Virus Power racing suit is the only one in the world to date that has achieved the highest AAA certification according to EN17092:2020 – without any leather or other animal components.

Technical innovations in detail

The Virus Power racing suit weighs just 4.0 kg (8.8 lbs). This is remarkably light for a complete racing suit with an integrated protection system. The model is also designed to be compatible with modern airbag systems. Special attention has been paid to protection against abrasion, tears, and cuts. Even heat resistance has been optimized – thanks to a low heat exchange coefficient, the material protects against burns even during prolonged slides on the asphalt. At the same time, the fabric is designed to remain extremely breathable.

Focus on sustainability

In addition to completely avoiding animal-based materials, Virus Power is committed to sustainability throughout the entire production chain. The racing suits are Global Recycled Standard certified, which means that all components are made from verified recycled materials. For motorcyclists who value environmental protection, this is a forward-looking signal.

Prominent support in racing

The concept is not only convincing in theory. British Superbike rider Scott Redding has been wearing a Virus Power suit in Team MGM Bonovo Racing since his return to Ducati in the 2025 season. Redding particularly praises the comfort and high-quality workmanship:

“For me, this is the future of motorcycle racing suits. The comfort is absolutely impressive. I want it to be an elite suit, and it’s made entirely in-house – fantastic.”

Variants, prices, and availability

Virus Power offers different versions of its racing suits, including a special version for women. The starting price is €1,399 (about $1,465). The top version costs €2,699 (around US$2,870). Individual customizations and special requests can be ordered additionally. Sales are currently focused on Europe, but a market launch in the US is considered likely.

Conclusion

The motorcycle world is undergoing a transformation: the new racing suit from Virus Power shows that maximum safety, comfort, and sustainability do not have to be mutually exclusive—and all without leather. For racers and sporty motorcyclists who value innovative technology and environmental responsibility, this could be the beginning of a new era.
