The evolution of the monster chopper: a one-off on two wheels

In the heart of Idaho, the Grind Hard Plumbing Co is creating a motorcycle that impresses not only with its size, but also with its uniqueness.  The Monster Chopper, a project that began in September 2023, breaks with all the conventions of conventional motorcycles.  The machine is powered by a powerful V2 engine from the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, which delivers an impressive 160 hp, equivalent to around 117 kW, and a torque of 140 Nm at 6,750 rpm.  This performance promises to deliver consistency and power in any terrain.

The construction of a giant

Every part of the chopper, from the oversized tubular trellis frame construction to the hydraulic wheel hub steering, is custom-made.  The development work, which lasted until the end of March 2024, included the adaptation of a specially manufactured single-sided swingarm and an innovative rear fender with stabilizing fins.  The chopper’s fuel tank, which also serves as a seat, underlines the creativity and mechanical expertise that went into this project.

Challenges on the way to completion

Although the chopper is already self-propelled and has completed its first test rides, the team faced numerous challenges.  These included not only technical hurdles such as optimizing the hydraulic steering, but also practical problems such as bending the chain and damage to the rear sprocket.  For the creative minds at Grind Hard, however, such setbacks are only an incentive to continue improving their designs.

First riding impressions and the future of the Monster Chopper

The first test rides of the chopper, albeit only at low speeds, have shown that the handling still needs to be optimized.  Despite the unpredictability of the turning maneuvers, the builders report that the chopper behaves like a normal motorcycle as soon as it is in motion.  An exciting aspect of the project was the impressive burnout in their own garage yard, which underlined the impressive performance and potential of the chopper.

Conclusion

The Monster Chopper from Grind Hard Plumbing Co is more than just a motorcycle; it is proof that vision, passion and technical skill can push the boundaries of what is possible.  With each passing day, the team comes closer to completing their ambitious project, impressively demonstrating what can be achieved with creativity and technical know-how.
