Back in the spotlight: Suzuki at the Suzuka 8 Hours
After Suzuki withdrew from MotoGP twice in the past 15 years and is currently no longer represented in WSBK, the manufacturer’s racing future seemed uncertain for a long time. However, with the “Team Suzuki CN Challenge” project, which was launched in 2023, the company is showing a new commitment. The team is made up of Suzuki employees and brings a production-based GSX-R1000R to the starting line.
The special thing about it is that the machine relies entirely on sustainable technology – a bold move in the highly competitive environment of the Suzuka 8 Hours endurance classic.
A strong statement with 100% sustainable fuel
Suzuki already caused a stir last year when the team achieved a respectable eighth place overall with 40% bio-based fuel. This approach will be consistently pursued in 2025: The racing bolide will run on 100% sustainable fuel for the first time. In addition, even more environmentally friendly components will be used.
Tsuyoshi Tanaka, Executive General Manager of Motorcycle Operations at Suzuki, explained:
“Last year, Team Suzuki CN Challenge was able to complete the tough endurance race of the Suzuka 8 Hours while reducing its environmental impact. We have taken a significant step towards the future of the internal combustion engine and motorsport.”
The declared goal for 2025: to exceed last year’s performance while further reducing the carbon footprint. According to Tanaka, this is not just about carbon neutrality, but about a holistic reduction in environmental impact.
Further technical development despite withdrawal from racing
The GSX-R1000R for 2025 will be equipped with a completely new engine, the exact details of which have not yet been published. What is clear, however, is that the machine is optimized for operation with 100% sustainable fuel – a technical challenge that allows conclusions to be drawn about possible future series products.
Suzuki’s statement that the knowledge gained from this project will be incorporated into the development of new models in the future is also particularly interesting. This raises speculation about a possible comeback in MotoGP – because from 2027, the regulations will stipulate exclusively non-fossil fuels.
Conclusion: Glimmer of hope for Suzuki fans
Although Suzuki is currently holding back from the major international championships, its participation in the Suzuka 8 Hours 2025 shows that the manufacturer has by no means written off racing. The combination of traditional endurance racing and consistent sustainability is not only a technical experiment, but also a beacon of hope for the future of motorsport – and perhaps a quiet harbinger of a return to the big stage.
