Rumors about an upcoming Honda Transalp have persisted for years. It could compete as a smaller version of the Africa Twin with the Yamaha Tenere 700. Now Honda has reapplied for the “Transalp” naming rights in America.
The naming rights for the Americas have not been renewed since 2016, so it’s safe to assume that this month’s reapplication could point to a return of the Transalp. However, it is also the case that protection of the name in Europe was last renewed in 2012 (still valid until 2026) and there have also been renewals of name protection in Australia and Japan, which took place in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Despite this, no new Transalp has yet been announced.
So it remains uncertain whether a new Transalp will come, especially since they already have smaller adventure models in their lineup with the CB500X or the NC750X, even if they are more for street use.
