Iker Lecuona after surgery: Xavi Vierge replaces him at the Suzuka 8 Hours 2025

After a multiple crash through no fault of his own in the first WorldSBK race at the Balaton Park Circuit, Iker Lecuona suffered a broken left radius and ulna. The injury not only forced him to withdraw early from the race weekend in Hungary, but also made it impossible for him to participate in the legendary Suzuka 8 Hours.

Successful surgery in Valencia

The necessary surgery was performed on July 28, 2025, by Dr. Eduardo Sánchez Alepuz at IMED Valencia Hospital. According to the team, the desired stabilization of the fracture was successfully achieved. After spending one night in the clinic, Lecuona was discharged the following morning. His next medical check-up is scheduled for August 4. Honda HRC emphasizes that further updates on his recovery process will follow.

Xavi Vierge steps in for the 46th edition of the Suzuka 8 Hours

The Honda HRC factory team had to react quickly for the “Coca-Cola” Suzuka 8 Hours, a traditional endurance race in the FIM Endurance World Championship, which will take place on August 3, 2025. Instead of Lecuona, his WorldSBK teammate Xavi Vierge will now compete. Vierge will strengthen the factory team alongside Takumi Takahashi and Johann Zarco. Vierge was already part of the winning team at the Suzuka 8 Hours in 2023, alongside Takahashi and Tetsuta Nagashima.

Honda HRC officially wishes Lecuona a speedy recovery and assures the Spanish rider of its full support.
