KTM 690 Enduro R 2 1

KTM 690 Enduro R 2026 – More technology, more torque, new LC4 engine

KTM has released the first concrete details about the 690 Enduro R for the 2026 model year. Following a presentation at this year's Adventure Bike Rider Festival, the Austrian manufacturer has confirmed that the revised Enduro will be available at dealers from the beginning of next year. The focus is on a fundamental redesign of the well-known LC4 single-cylinder engine, but also on numerous innovations in the areas of electronics and ergonomics.

New LC4 engine: Around half of the components redesigned

The high-displacement single-cylinder engine, which is considered the hallmark of the 690 Enduro series, has been comprehensively modernized for the next generation. According to the manufacturer, around 50 percent of the engine components are either new or have been further developed. This should primarily lead to an increase in torque. While specific performance figures have not yet been announced, the maximum torque of the predecessor is 73.5 Nm (54.2 ft-lb). According to KTM, the new generation should exceed this figure. Further technical details on peak power or the exact rpm for maximum torque have not yet been released.

Optimized chassis and subtly refined ergonomics

The chassis of the 2026 690 Enduro R has also been redesigned. KTM speaks of an improved riding experience and increased frame stiffness. According to the manufacturer, the changes to the ergonomics and bodywork are subtle and represent an evolution rather than a revolution. The aim of the revisions is to achieve noticeably more precise handling on and off paved roads.

Modern electronics: TFT display, riding modes, and more assistance systems

A key technical update concerns the cockpit: the previous LCD display will be replaced by a 4.2-inch TFT display. This enables the integration of KTM’s phone pairing system for the first time, allowing phone calls, turn-by-turn navigation, and music playback to be operated directly on the motorcycle. A USB-C port is included as standard.

The safety package has also been expanded: the 2026 690 Enduro R comes standard with cornering ABS and cornering traction control. There are also three riding modes: “Street,” “Sport,” and the optional “Rally” mode. The electronic package is designed to provide a high level of safety and customization both on and off-road.

Revised control element with practical features

The update is rounded off by a new, ergonomically optimized switch unit. In addition to improved haptics and backlit buttons for the first time, there is an integrated ABS off switch located on the left side of the handlebar. This allows the electronic aids to be adjusted directly while riding without having to take your hands off the handlebars.

Conclusion

The KTM 690 Enduro R has been comprehensively revised for the 2026 model year. A more modern engine with more torque, numerous electronic innovations, and targeted improvements in ergonomics and operation are intended to continue positioning the model as a versatile and powerful companion for road and off-road riding. Exact technical data and prices are not yet available. The first models are expected to be available at dealers in early 2026.
