Kawasaki Z1100: Signs of a new super naked model are mounting

A recent post by Kawasaki Europe on LinkedIn has sparked speculation about a new model. In it, the manufacturer looks back more than 20 years to the launch of the Kawasaki Z1000 in 2003. At that time, the machine was presented with the so-called Sugomi design, which appeared as a radical streetfighter. According to Kawasaki, this created a new motorcycle genre: the supernaked. With this reminder of an iconic model, suspicions are now mounting that Kawasaki is deliberately setting the stage for the introduction of a new Z1100.

Model name ZR1100HT sparks discussion

Documents from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) provide further fuel for this speculation. A new model with the designation ZR1100HT is listed there. If Kawasaki follows its previous naming logic, this is another member of the Z series, i.e., a naked bike. The abbreviation “HT” could stand for “High Torque,” suggesting an engine designed for high torque. In motorcycle circles, there is also speculation that, in addition to a modern version, a retro variant could also be released as an RS model. However, this has not been officially confirmed.

Possible orientation of the new model

Kawasaki’s social media post provides another clue: the Z1000 was not designed purely as a performance machine, but rather in line with the traditional Z virtues – a sporty machine that was primarily intended to be fun to ride. This emphasis on the riding experience suggests that the upcoming Z1100 is intended less as an uncompromising high-performance bike and more as a balanced naked bike. This could put it more in the same league as a Honda CB1000 Hornet than the extreme MV Agusta Brutale 1000 RR.

Schedule and possible unveiling

Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but looking at the trade fair calendar, one assumption springs to mind. In around nine weeks, EICMA will take place in Milan – traditionally the place where major manufacturers present their new products. It would therefore make sense for Kawasaki to unveil the Z1100 to the public there. Until then, the marketing department is likely to scatter further hints on social media to keep the excitement high.
