Harley-Davidson announces international Bagger World Cup 2026

Harley-Davidson and MotoGP have officially unveiled the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup. The racing series will be held for the first time in 2026 and is considered the first international championship specifically designed for powerful Harley-Davidson baggers.

The bikes are based on the US manufacturer’s Grand American Touring platform and will be extensively modified for racing. The aim is to transform the V-twin machines, traditionally designed for long distances, into fast and agile racing vehicles. This is set to open a new chapter in motorcycle racing that is significantly different from classic MotoGP races.

2026 racing calendar

The debut season will feature six events at internationally renowned racetracks in the US and Europe:

  • Circuit of The Americas, Austin (Texas), US – March 27 to 29
  • Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, Italy – May 29 to 31
  • TT Circuit Assen, Netherlands – June 26-28
  • Silverstone Circuit, Great Britain – August 7-9
  • MotorLand Aragón, Spain – August 28-30
  • Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria – September 18-20 (final)

The final race will take place at the Red Bull Ring. The finale in Austria emphasizes the country’s long motorsport tradition and highlights its importance in international racing.

Official statements

Kolja Rebstock, Senior Vice President International Markets at Harley-Davidson, said: “The launch of the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup heralds a new era for our brand and motorcycle racing. This series is about pushing the limits of our machines, our riders, and our brand on a global stage. We are proud to be working with MotoGP to realize this vision.”

Carlos Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, emphasized: “We are constantly looking for opportunities for innovation and expansion – on the racetrack and for our record-breaking number of viewers. This is how we continue to evolve and increase the reach of the sport. In doing so, we remain true to everything that fans love about MotoGP, while finding ways to appeal to new audiences. The Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup meets these requirements.”

Jeff Schuessler, Global Director of Marketing and Partnerships Racing Programs at Harley-Davidson, also commented: “We have seen what is possible with King of the Baggers in the US, and now we are taking that spirit, energy, and power to the world stage. For us, this is more than just racing. It is a global statement about who we are and what we strive for.”

Background and outlook

The Cup was first unveiled at the French Grand Prix in Le Mans in early 2025. According to the manufacturer, the presentation at the time generated a huge response from fans, the media, and within the industry.

Interested teams, riders, and sponsors are now invited to participate in the new format for the 2026 season. With the move from a national racing series to a global championship, Harley-Davidson wants to work with MotoGP to bring the excitement of bagger racing to a wider audience.
