Development in the in-house MotionLAB
The protectors were developed in collaboration between Furygan’s own MotionLAB and the material experts at D3O, who are best known for their shock-absorbing polymers. The combination of ergonomic design and innovative material technology has resulted in a protector that flexibly conforms to the body, is breathable, and hardens instantly upon impact.
The aim of the development was to create a product that is barely noticeable in everyday use but provides maximum protection in an emergency. Spectre protectors are certified to EN1621-1 Level 2, which is the highest protection standard currently applicable to motorcycle protectors. According to Furygan and D3O, the new protectors even exceed the minimum requirements of this standard.
Material technology meets ergonomics
At the heart of Spectre’s development is D3O’s material research, which is based on over 30 specially developed formulations. Combined with the ergonomic expertise of Furygan’s MotionLAB, this has resulted in a protector that offers both protection and freedom of movement. According to the manufacturer, special attention was paid to ensuring that the high level of protection did not come at the expense of comfort – a compromise that often has to be accepted with conventional protectors.
During a presentation in Croydon, UK, trade journalists recently had the opportunity to see the new technology for themselves. They were able to hold the Spectre protectors in their hands and watch demonstrations of their shock-absorbing properties.
Two versions available – can be retrofitted to existing Furygan clothing
The Spectre series is available in two versions:
- Jacket Pack Spectre D3O L2: RRP £49.99 (approx. €58 / $61)
- Elbows/Knees Spectre D3O L2: RRP £34.99 (approx. €41 / $43)
According to Furygan, both versions can be easily integrated into the manufacturer’s existing motorcycle jackets, making them a straightforward upgrade for riders who want to improve their protective gear without compromising on comfort.
Lightweight, flexible, yet powerful
With the Spectre series, Furygan and D3O aim to dispel common preconceptions about protectors. The new models are designed to be neither bulky nor sweaty or restrictive. Instead, the material is intended to blend inconspicuously into the protective clothing—and only come into play when it really matters.
