Patent drawings indicate that Ducati wants to use the seamless transmission from MotoGP for a road bike.
Seamless transmissions have been known from MotoGP for about 10 years. They ensure that you can shift up the gears without interrupting the traction. The system also does not introduce any unrest into the chassis, as can be the case with a quickshifter. In MotoGP, this results in smoother handling during gear changes, permanent propulsion and less tire wear.
However, the system shown in the patent drawings differs from that used in MotoGP, as it shows a mechanical solution that suggests it would be used in a transmission housing of a conventional engine.
When the patent will be implemented in a production bike, and in which one, is currently unknown, but where could it fit better than in Ducati’s supersport flagship Panigale V4?
