New Ducati Panigale V4 R (2026) Makes Test Debut at Misano

Ducati has officially unveiled the next-generation Panigale V4 R during a two-day Superbike test at the Misano World Circuit on May 27, 2025.  The bike, destined for competition in the 2026 World Superbike Championship, was ridden by test rider Michele Pirro, who completed 39 laps.  His best lap time was 1:34.574 minutes—about 1.5 seconds slower than Toprak Razgatlioglu's fastest time of the day (1:33.034) aboard a BMW.

Technical Highlights and Visible Changes

While Ducati has yet to release official technical specifications for the updated Panigale V4 R, several notable changes were spotted during the test:

  • New Swingarm Design: The traditional single-sided swingarm has been replaced with a double-sided unit.  This change is often favored in racing for improved stability and chassis feedback.
  • MotoGP-Inspired Aerodynamics: The bike’s fairing has undergone significant aerodynamic refinement, drawing clear inspiration from Ducati’s MotoGP machine, the Desmosedici.  Lower-positioned air intakes and a newly integrated lower diffuser are intended to enhance airflow and provide additional downforce—especially beneficial in fast corners.

These updates point toward Ducati’s continued focus on improving handling and aerodynamic performance, key factors in remaining competitive in the Superbike field.

Expected Performance Data and Lap Time Comparison

While official performance figures for the 2026 Panigale V4 R are not yet available, it’s expected to produce around 160 kW (218 hp) at approximately 15,500 rpm, with peak torque around 111 Nm.  Additional updates to electronics, chassis setup, and weight are also likely but unconfirmed at this stage.

Michele Pirro’s lap time of 1:34.574 placed him well behind the day’s frontrunners.  Ducati factory rider Álvaro Bautista, for example, posted a 1:33.417, making him 1.2 seconds quicker than Pirro.
