Racing DNA for off-road enthusiasts
The Desmo450 MX was developed specifically for off-road use and tested in a tough competitive environment. Lupino won a national title on its debut, while Jeremy Seewer shone on the international stage with podium finishes. The goal was clear: to create a bike that offers both professionals and ambitious amateurs a high level of performance combined with easy controllability.
With its powerful power delivery, precise suspension geometry and innovative electronics, the Desmo450 MX is designed to offer a high degree of control and riding pleasure – with reduced physical effort.
Unique: Desmodromic and traction control in the MX sector
At its heart is a 449.6 cm³ single-cylinder four-stroke engine with Ducati’s typical desmodromic technology – a unique selling point in the motocross sector. The engine characteristics have been tuned in such a way that powerful torque is available both in the low and medium rev range, coupled with a long rev range.
Although performance data has not yet been officially published, a power level of around 57 hp (approx. 42 kW) can be assumed. The maximum torque is likely to be in the region of 50 Nm, which is typical for this class. The engine therefore enables precise power metering, especially when accelerating out of bends.
Another highlight is the electronic traction control system – the first of its kind in a production motocross bike, according to Ducati. It is designed to detect the actual slip of the rear wheel in real time and differentiate precisely when it makes sense to intervene and when not – for example in the air or during controlled slides.
Aluminum frame with racing technology
Ducati also relies on modern technology for the chassis: the aluminum frame is designed for maximum rigidity with minimum weight. A small number of weld seams were deliberately used to ensure structural integrity and a low overall weight. Exact weight specifications are missing, but a ready-to-ride weight of around 110 kg (approx. 243 lbs) can be expected – a value within the range of the competition.
Factory-level equipment: Ducati Performance Package
If you want to bring the Desmo450 MX even closer to the factory bikes of Jeremy Seewer and Mattia Guadagnini, you can choose from a wide range of accessories. The Ducati Performance catalog includes, among other things:
- CNC-milled triple clamps and wheel hubs
- Akrapovič titanium silencer (slip-on)
- Brembo Racing brake calipers
- Complete off-road clothing (Alpinestars jersey, trousers, gloves, boots)
- Arai helmet and functional clothing from Drudi Performance
Sales start in June 2025
The Desmo450 MX will be available from selected dealers in Europe from June 2025. The market launch in North America is scheduled for July, followed by worldwide sales. Ducati is thus entering completely new territory and expanding its own model range with a completely new off-road line.
Conclusion
With the Desmo450 MX, Ducati is venturing into the world of motocross motorcycles – with a machine that combines motorsport DNA, technical expertise and brand identity in a new environment. It remains to be seen whether the concept can survive in the face of fierce competition in the long term. One thing is certain: The Desmo450 MX marks a milestone for Ducati and opens up new perspectives for the company on the global motorcycle market.
