Triumph Thruxton 400: The small café racer icon will be launched in August 2025

Triumph is expanding its model portfolio with the new Thruxton 400. This machine is being developed in cooperation with Indian manufacturer Bajaj and is set to launch on the Indian market in August 2025. The goal is clear: the legendary café racer charm of the Thruxton is now being brought into a compact displacement class for the first time in order to appeal to a wider audience.

Tradition meets modernity

Triumph looks back on a long tradition of legendary motorcycles. Models such as the Bonneville and Daytona enjoy cult status, as does the previous Thruxton series. The new Thruxton 400 is visually and technically based on its big brothers, but thanks to its compact design and modern construction, it remains a motorcycle of the present. The collaboration with Bajaj ensures a marketable implementation with a global orientation.

Design with café racer genes

The Thruxton 400 incorporates numerous design elements from the classic café racer era. These include a small front fairing (“bikini fairing”), bar-end mirrors, and the sporty, compact seating position typical of the series. Despite the smaller displacement, the silhouette remains clearly recognizable as a Thruxton. The chassis is based on that of the Speed 400, but with its own accents and features.

Modern equipment for everyday use and leisure

Although the Thruxton 400 has a strong retro look, it remains technically up to date. Features include LED lighting, ABS, traction control, and a partially digital cockpit. This makes the motorcycle suitable not only for weekend tours and café trips, but also for everyday urban use.

Engine and technical data

The Thruxton 400 is powered by a 399 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. It delivers 39.5 hp (29 kW) at an as yet unconfirmed speed. The maximum torque is 37.6 Nm (27.7 lb-ft). Power is transmitted via a six-speed gearbox. The top speed is expected to reach around 160 km/h (around 100 mph). The engine is known for its balanced power delivery, especially on winding country roads and in city traffic.

Target group and positioning

With the Thruxton 400, Triumph is responding to the growing demand for maneuverable, efficient, and affordable motorcycles. The machine is designed to offer an emotional riding experience without breaking the bank. According to the manufacturer, the small Thruxton offers younger riders or those returning to motorcycling an uncomplicated entry into the world of classic motorcycles – with modern technology and the brand’s signature design.

Prices and market launch

Specific prices for the Thruxton 400 are not yet known at this time. It is expected that pricing will be based on comparable models in the 400cc class in order to remain attractive, particularly in the Indian and Asian markets. Converted, the starting price is expected to be in the range of around 4,000 to 4,500 euros (approx. 4,350 to 4,900 US dollars). A launch in Europe has not yet been confirmed, but is considered likely.

Conclusion

With the Thruxton 400, Triumph is bringing a traditional series into the small displacement class for the first time. The model combines classic café racer looks with the latest technology and is aimed at riders who are looking for a stylish, everyday motorcycle with character. The cooperation with Bajaj also enables attractive pricing for the global market.
