Weather influences lead to multiple delays
The original schedule called for the Senior TT to start at 19:00 local time. Rain showers and wet sections of the track had already caused delays during the course of the day. Although the weather cleared up in the course of the evening, so that the individual starters were sent to the Mountain Course for an inspection lap at around 18:00, critical voices from the field of riders increased on their return.
Safety concerns after track inspection
According to Gary Thompson, Clerk of the Course, the decision was made after extensive consultation with numerous participants. Although individual riders had signaled their willingness to “adapt to the conditions”, the majority of the field expressed concern about the wind conditions.
“The wind speeds and directions were very different to what we’ve had to deal with over the past two weeks,” explained Thompson. “The unpredictable gusts posed a significant risk – and at the TT, the safety of everyone involved is paramount.”
Decision with regret, but clear focus on safety
Thompson emphasized that the cancellation of such a prestigious race as the Senior TT is never easy. Nevertheless, he was aware of the responsibility: “The aim is to hold the event under the safest possible conditions – unfortunately this was not possible tonight.”
He expressly thanked everyone involved – especially the volunteers, medical staff, officials, marshals and riders – for their patience and commitment during the challenging days of the event.
Background to the Milwaukee Senior TT
The Milwaukee Senior TT is considered the pinnacle race of the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man. For over a century, it has been the most prestigious race of the two-week event. The decision to cancel this year once again shows how seriously the organizers take the safety situation – especially on the notorious 60.72 km long Mountain Course, which is one of the most dangerous race tracks in the world.
