Lee Johnston wins Supersport TT

James Hillier led Glen Helen on the first lap. 1.3 seconds behind Lee Johnston, 1.3 seconds later Gary Johnson. This was followed by Dean Harrison, Jamie Coward and Michael Dunlop.

Until Ballaugh Hillier was able to extend his lead by three-tenths of a second. In second to fourth place, there were no changes. Hickman was able to improve on a place at five.

Johnson was able to catch up to just 0.6 seconds off Ramsey Hairpin. The first six drivers were only five seconds apart.

Until bungalow Johnston could take the virtual lead. He drove a lap average of 126.03 mph. 1,989 seconds behind Hillier. Hickman was able to work his way up to third place. Johnson was now fourth, ahead of Harrison and Dunlop.


On the second lap, Johnston was able to extend his lead on Hillier to 3.9 seconds until Glen Helen. Hickman was only half a second behind the second placed Kawasaki rider. Harrison was able to work his way up to fourth.

From Glen Helen to Ballaugh Hillier had a run and could the distance to Johnston shrink to just 0.6 seconds. Then he lost but again constant time.


As rain began, the checkered flag was panned at the end of the lap. Johnston claimed his first TT victory with 3.6 seconds ahead of Hillier. Hickman finished third and took his second podium of the day.


Johnston was particularly proud of his motorcycle because he was not factory-supported. “Because we rebuilt and constructed the bike from scratch, it means a lot more and is a personal thing”
