Dunlop with modified tire program at the TT

Dunlop Reifenprobleme NW200

As reported, there were problems with the Dunlop KR108 at the North West 200.  For this reason, the tire manufacturer will withdraw the tire at the Isle of Man TT and offer a replacement.

At this year’s NW200 Michael Dunlop, among others, had problems with the KR108.  Under full throttle, the tire’s tread separated from the carcass.  Only through a lot of luck and driving skill it was possible to avoid a violent accident.

Tire manufacturer Dunlop reacted and withdrew the tire, with the result that only 22 instead of 56 riders could compete in the final Superbike race.  Dunlop cited a production defect in a particular batch.

In order not to affect rider confidence, Dunlop is now withdrawing the KR108 from the Isle of Man TT as well, offering the D213 GP Pro with profile instead.

“We are racers at heart and safety is our number one priority.  With our long track record at the Isle of Man TT, we know what it takes to win and set lap records at the Tourist Trophy.

After three Superbike riders experienced problems with the Dunlop KR108 slick rear tire at the North West 200, and knowing how important it is to give riders the confidence they need to race on such a demanding high-speed track, we have made the decision to withdraw the KR108 slick rear tire for the 2022 Isle of Man TT and offer the D213 GP PRO treaded rear tire as an alternative.”
