From January 1, 2026, a far-reaching innovation in the field of road safety will come into force in Spain: the classic warning triangle will no longer be used on freeways and dual carriageways.  Instead, the so-called V16 warning light will become mandatory.  The Spanish traffic authority Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) is thus pursuing the goal of significantly increasing safety in the event of breakdowns or accidents - especially under difficult visibility conditions or in heavy traffic.

Ducati has officially unveiled the next-generation Panigale V4 R during a two-day Superbike test at the Misano World Circuit on May 27, 2025.  The bike, destined for competition in the 2026 World Superbike Championship, was ridden by test rider Michele Pirro, who completed 39 laps.  His best lap time was 1:34.574 minutes—about 1.5 seconds slower than Toprak Razgatlioglu's fastest time of the day (1:33.034) aboard a BMW.

The Austrian motorcycle brand KTM has stood for uncompromising motorsport for years - especially in MotoGP.  KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister has now commented on the company's long-term motorsport strategy in a detailed interview with the Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper.  Despite economic caution and changing framework conditions, such as those that could accompany Liberty Media's entry into MotoGP, the course remains clear: KTM wants to remain true to racing.

The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy is known for its thrilling history, its dangerous bends and its legendary riders. One of them has now finally set himself a monument: Michael Dunlop, the most successful rider in the history of the TT, now has his own corner on the notorious Mountain Course.

A new chapter in Ducati's company history begins: with the Desmo450 MX, the traditional Italian brand is entering the motocross motorcycle segment for the first time.  On May 26, 2025, the first production model rolled off the production line at the Borgo Panigale plant - a highly symbolic moment that was attended by motocross legend Tony Cairoli and Italian champion Alessandro Lupino, among others.

The Isle of Man TT 2025 has officially started - but the opening round on Monday, May 26, was much quieter than planned.  Due to adverse weather conditions, only the planned introductory laps for the newcomers could take place.  The actual qualifying session had to be canceled at short notice.

BMW is currently working on an innovative system that uses high-pressure air jets to actively influence the aerodynamics of motorcycles.  The focus is on a type of “jet assistance” that is intended to increase grip and improve handling in cornering situations.  Initial patent applications provide an insight into the complex system, which could represent a new evolutionary stage in active aerodynamics.

Electromobility is currently experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions.  While the initial euphoria has waned and political setbacks under the renewed presidency of Donald Trump are causing uncertainty in America, development is not standing still.  A technological breakthrough by General Motors (GM) and LG Energy Solution could give new impetus to electromobility - especially for motorcycles and off-road vehicles.

The traditional Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM is facing a historic turning point: the Indian industrial group Bajaj is taking full control of the company, bringing an era to an end.  The withdrawal of Stefan Pierer, the long-time string-puller behind KTM, marks the end of a decades-long era in Austrian industrial history.  In the course of the insolvency proceedings, Bajaj takes over all debts and liabilities of KTM AG - and thus also the operational control.

General Motors - a name previously associated primarily with V8 engines and muscle cars such as the Camaro or the Corvette - could soon be involved in a completely new segment: the market for electrically powered motorcycles.  Patents that have now been published by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) suggest that the US car manufacturer is working on an electric motorcycle.

With the new Diavel V4 RS for the 2026 model year, Ducati appears to be following the same path as the Multistrada V4 RS - a sportier, more powerful variant that is intended to take the already potent base model to a new level.  The information comes from the USA, where the machine became public via an entry in the VIN decoder of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  This provides the first tangible indications of the technical orientation and performance potential of the new powerhouse.

Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMI) has started construction of a new motorcycle factory in Kharkhoda in northern India.  The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone in the Haryana region marked the first symbolic step for an ambitious project: From 2027, up to 750,000 motorcycles are to roll off the production line there every year.  This is Suzuki's response to the steadily increasing demand in the world's second-largest motorcycle market.

BMW is preparing for the next technological leap in the superbike segment.  On Friday, May 23, 2025 at 7 p.m., BMW Motorrad will unveil a new concept bike at the traditional Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como.  The first teaser images already suggest a new generation of the BMW S 1000 RR or M 1000 RR - with a clear focus on uncompromising performance and state-of-the-art technology.

Honda is causing a stir at the Beijing Motor Show 2025 with the unveiling of a new electric sports bike.  Still unveiled without an official name, this concept follows on from the already familiar EV Fun (a naked bike) and EV Urban electric scooter models, which were first unveiled at EICMA 2024.  With this step, Honda is underlining that the electrification of the two-wheeler fleet is now a central theme of the brand strategy.

The future of Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM seems secure for the time being - thanks to a massive financial commitment by Indian co-owner Bajaj.  Just a few days before the legally stipulated deadline for satisfying creditors expires, there has been some movement in the restructuring process.  The Indians have secured a loan of 566 million euros (approx. 614 million US dollars) via three international banks - an amount that should be sufficient to almost completely satisfy the creditors' share required in the restructuring plan.
