Already since July there are rumors that the 2023 Tracer GT will be equipped with a radar system. First prototype pictures confirmed this. Now patent drawings have also surfaced, revealing a bit more about the system.
In the sketches, one can see that the system is attached to a bracket between the headlights and has adjustment screws to set the alignment. It is located behind a plastic cover through which the electromagnetic waves can pass. Until now, most manufacturers have not used a cover in front of the radar so as not to interfere with the waves. However, a cover in front of the system does make sense, as it protects it from the weather as much as possible and the protective cover can be replaced more cheaply than the radar system itself if it is damaged.
This appears to be the Bosch radar system, which is also used by many other brands. It works in conjunction with the ABS and the ride-by-wire throttle and can thus influence the speed being driven.
The radar system can be used to implement adaptive cruise control, but also a kind of emergency brake assistant, which either warns of a possible collision or even actively initiates braking.
