To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic R1, Yamaha is releasing a limited edition of 25, packed with GYTR PRO performance parts developed in collaboration with the World Superbike Championship teams.  This ultimate R1 offers track performance for personal use, including high-tech riding aids and customization options, culminating in an exclusive track experience with dedicated Yamaha technicians.

Special GYTR PRO performance parts to celebrate the R1’s 25th birthday.

For the iconic R1’s 25th birthday, Yamaha has a special surprise for its customers.  Through the GYTR PRO store network, fans around the world can look forward to a performance experience that they would otherwise only be able to experience at World Championships.  Special GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) PRO performance parts have been developed in close collaboration with the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) and World Endurance Championship (EWC) teams.

These special GYTR PRO performance parts were developed by Yamaha Motor Research & Development Europe engineers who also designed the R1 WorldSBK machine that won the 2021 World Championship.  Now, for the first time, this top performance is being made available to privateer riders.

Special GYTR PRO performance parts

The performance package for the R1 includes a carbon frame rear end that is not only lightweight and ultra-strong, but also includes a modified fuel tank with a lower center of gravity and the Magneti Marelli ECU.

The Öhlins FGR sub-fork and TTX strut with pneumatic spring preload provide precise handling and the same customization options available to Yamaha’s pro racers.  A special underslung swingarm, developed specifically for Yamaha’s WorldSBK racing program, improves maximum lean angle and rear wheel grip.  In addition to the Brembo brake components on the front and rear axles, the carbon fairing and windshield also provide optimum aerodynamics.

Complementing this, Yamaha offers a GYTR PRO Electronic System (GPES) module that incorporates state-of-the-art engine control and data acquisition technologies developed by YMRE in WorldSBK and the FIM Endurance World Championship.  The GPES offers state-of-the-art electronic driver aids and comes with a basic setting ready to be adjusted, which is a great starting point for fine tuning on the track.

The genesis of the performance parts and the introduction by Valentino Rossi.

The development of these exclusive performance parts took years of high-level development work.  Yamaha WorldSBK riders Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and Andrea Locatelli, as well as test rider Niccolò Canepa, played a crucial role.  At the presentation of the GYTR PRO concept at EICMA, Yamaha ambassador and nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi was presented with an R1 equipped with a selection of GYTR PRO performance parts.

Exclusive series of 25 R1 bikes to celebrate anniversary

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the R1, Yamaha has launched a limited series of 25 hand-built R1 bikes, all equipped with the full range of GYTR PRO performance parts.  Assembled exclusively by experienced technicians in one of the 25 GYTR PRO stores in Europe, the R1 GYTR PRO 25th Anniversary is instantly recognizable as the ultimate track tool thanks to the special anniversary paint that adorns the carbon fairing.

The R1 GYTR PRO 25th Anniversary, which features equipment that rivals Yamaha’s World Championship race bikes, can only be ordered online.  Customers can specify which GYTR Pro Shop will prepare the bike to their individual specifications.

A day at the track for owners

To ensure owners can realize the full potential of their R1 GYTR PRO 25th Anniversary, they will each spend a day at a race track with a specially assembled team of Yamaha technicians.  After the initial on-track tune-up, owners will go through the same process used by Yamaha’s World Championship teams, with riders like Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, to tune the bike to their specific riding style.

The ultimate R1

The exclusive features of the R1 GYTR PRO 25th Anniversary Edition and the technical expertise of Yamaha GYTR PRO stores offer a unique opportunity to own a one-of-a-kind R1.  With only a limited number of 25 motorcycles available, prospective buyers should act quickly to avoid missing out on this offer.

Quotes from Yamaha managers

Andrea Dosoli, Road Racing Manager at Yamaha Motor Europe, commented, “We developed the GYTR PRO performance parts in parallel with our World Superbike and Endurance World Championship racing programs to give our customers the opportunity to experience a truly unique level of performance.  To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the R1, we have brought the bike, the full range of GYTR PRO performance parts and the knowledge and experience of our GYTR Pro Shops together to offer an out-of-the-box solution for all those Yamaha customers who demand the very best.  With the R1 GYTR PRO 25th Anniversary Edition, our customers have the opportunity to enjoy a unique motorcycle; one that is as close to the specification of our World Championship race bikes as possible without having a Yamaha contract for WorldSBK or EWC racing.”

Eric de Seynes, President and CEO of Yamaha Motor Europe, also expressed pride, “The launch of the GYTR PRO range is a proud moment for everyone at Yamaha Motor Europe.  Now we can directly offer our customers the technology we have developed in collaboration with our WorldSBK and EWC racing programs.  Developed by our WorldSBK race engineers and tested by our pro riders, the GYTR PRO range represents the pinnacle of what is possible when it comes to making our race-developed technology available to our customers.  Also unique is the complete package we are offering to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the R1, which I was delighted to introduce during the Yamaha Racing Experience at Mugello.  Each bike in the exclusive R1 GYTR PRO 25th Anniversary Edition is hand-built with the full range of GYTR PRO performance parts by the experienced technicians in one of our GYTR PRO stores, who also provide technical support during a special setup day at the track.  It’s a process that few people other than our professional racers will ever experience.”
