Since its launch in 2014, the Yamaha MT-07 has been one of the most popular naked bikes in Europe.  In model year 2025, Yamaha is presenting the MT-07 with a new look and technical enhancements.  The MT-07 remains true to its style and combines its “Dark Side of Japan” philosophy with a revised design and new features.

With a weight of 183 kg (403 lbs), the motorcycle weighs around 1 kg less than the previous model.  This weight reduction has been achieved by using lighter materials and innovative production methods such as the patented “spin-forging” process for the rims.  This new technology reduces the weight by around 480 grams and improves agility by reducing inertia on the front and rear axles.

Revised design and LED headlights

The fourth generation of the MT-07 is characterized by a fresh design.  The new LED twin headlight unit gives the motorcycle a striking look, while the aerodynamic fairing contributes to the lightness of the vehicle with 600 g less weight.  The tank is designed to allow a tight knee fit and discreetly conceals the routing of hoses and cables.

The compact rear end and the narrow rear light focus on clear lines and are intended to give the machine an unmistakable look when the ignition is switched on.  The visual impression is intended to emphasize the connection between rider and machine.

Modernized technology: YCC-T and individual riding modes

For the new generation of the MT-07, Yamaha is using the Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T), which is familiar from larger models, for the first time.  This ride-by-wire system enables the use of Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) with several riding modes that can be adapted to different riding situations.  The “Sport” and “Street” modes are integrated as standard.  A third, user-defined mode can be set either directly via the TFT dashboard or the MyRide app.

The MT-07 is optionally available with the Y-AMT automated manual transmission.  In addition to traction control, this version also offers the option of selecting a sportier riding behavior via the third mode “D+”.  A rocker switch is available for the manual setting, which the driver can use to shift gears themselves if required, which supports particularly sporty driving.

Revised frame for improved stability and agility

Yamaha has redesigned the tubular steel frame of the MT-07 to increase torsional and lateral stiffness by around 12-13% and improve handling.  Despite the structural adjustments, the weight of the frame is 14.8 kg, the same as the previous model.  The asymmetrical swingarm has also been optimized and contributes to increased stability, especially when riding with luggage or a top case.

New comfort thanks to adapted riding position

The MT-07 offers an optimized riding position with a height of 805 mm, which provides both shorter and taller riders with a comfortable grip and riding comfort.  The handlebars are 18 mm wider, 22 mm lower and 9.3 mm further back to allow a more relaxed posture.  The footrests are 10 mm lower, which improves legroom and supports the sporty riding experience.

Acoustic amplification for the CP2 engine

The new MT-07 is powered by the 690 cc CP2 twin-cylinder with liquid-cooled DOHC engine.  By adapting the intake tract, an acoustic amplification system ensures a distinctive rumble when the throttle valve is opened.  Four strategically placed openings in the tank fairing channel the sound directly to the rider, enhancing the sporty experience.

Further developed suspension elements and brakes

A new 41 mm upside-down fork on the front axle and a modified shock absorber at the rear ensure a firmer ride feel.  This is complemented by new four-piston brake callipers on the front axle, which ensure improved braking stability.  The brake system is mounted radially, which is rare for a naked bike in this class.

5-inch TFT display with connectivity and navigation

A modern 5-inch TFT display shows information such as speed, engine speed, fuel consumption and air temperature.  The display can be connected to a smartphone via Yamaha’s MyRide app to answer calls, control music and adjust the YRC settings.  Alternatively, an optional navigation function is available via the Garmin StreetCross app.

Color selection and availability

The new Yamaha MT-07 and the Y-AMT version will be available from Yamaha dealers from March 2025 and will be offered in the colors Ice Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black.
