Yamaha rider Toprak Razgatlioglu won the first race of the World Superbike season finale. Kawasaki record World Champion Jonathan Rea, however, secured his sixth World Championship title.
Title contenders start from behind
Because of a crash in Superpole, Rea had to start the race from position 15. Worse hit, however, was his World Championship challenger Scott Redding, who started the race with the Ducati from last place on the grid. Razgatlioglu started from pole for the first time in his career in a WSBK race and was able to dominate the race from the start.
Rea was able to make up eight positions on the first lap. On lap two he already made it up to five.
On lap six Scott Redding had to retire due to a technical defect on the Panigale. This automatically made Rea a world champion.
Rea was able to work his way up to second place in the meantime, but was eventually overtaken by Davies, who also managed to secure second place. Gerloff also managed to pass the newly crowned world champion and took his second podium. Rea finished fourth.
