Triumph’s new 250cc motocross bike: from vision to reality

Motocross legend Ricky Carmichael and rising talent Evan Ferry put the final touches on Triumph's all-new 250cc motocross bike.  With mysterious technical details and an upcoming unveiling, the excitement in off-road racing remains at an all-time high.

A star in off-road racing takes the final test

Ricky Carmichael, the living legend in motocross racing, had the privilege of conducting the final test for Triumph’s brand new 250cc motocross bike.  But he wasn’t alone.  Evan Ferry, an up-and-coming talent on the motocross scene, was also involved, guiding the final stages of the development process for this fast-paced companion.

“It’s balanced and agile”: testers’ opinions.

The bikers were full of praise.  While Carmichael highlighted the bike’s balance and maneuverability, Ferry was particularly impressed by the special frame.  Carmichael pointed out, “It’s really balanced, it pulls well out of the corner, it’s very nimble.  When you see a line, you can ride it right away.”  Ferry agreed, saying, “They found something special with the frame.  I’ve never felt anything like it.”

What’s under the “hood”?

Although Triumph has not released the full technical details, it is known that the bike has an all-new aluminum frame and a single-cylinder engine.  The manufacturer has released several videos in the past to give fans a behind-the-scenes look.  This has kept curiosity about the new model at a reasonable level over the past few years.

Patience is required

Triumph has yet to announce the date of the full unveiling.  However, the company has made a series of videos to provide a curated look at various aspects of the project.  The latest video, released on September 5, 2023, shows Carmichael and Ferry putting Triumph’s 250cc MX bike through its paces.

The long road to the unveiling

Since the initial announcement in 2021, Triumph has put a lot of work into developing the new motocross bike, in parallel with other projects such as the launch of the Tiger 1200 range in 2022 and the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X in 2023. The motocross project has been a constant “sideline” that is now slowly coming to full maturity.

First impressions only for now

For all those hoping for further details such as technical specifications or a release date, it means for the time being: be patient.  What is already known, however, is the enthusiastic reaction of the testers.  That will certainly be enough to keep up the suspense until the bike is finally presented to the general public.
