One motorcycle, two cylinders: engine performance and characteristics

The recently launched Suzuki V-STROM 800 brings a blend of power and versatility to the asphalt with its 776 cc inline twin cylinder.  The engine, which has already proven its qualities in other models from the manufacturer, impresses with convincing power from low revs and a broadly applicable rev range.  At 8,500 rpm, the engine produces 84 hp (approximately 83 hp, 62.5 kW), while a maximum torque of 78 Nm is available at 6,800 rpm.  This makes the engine recommendable for solo excursions as well as for leisurely tours for two with luggage.

Support and safety through assistance systems

On the saddle of the V-STROM 800 modern helpers support the biker in different driving conditions.  The electronic Ride-by-Wire throttle system ensures precise reactions to the rider’s commands, while the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) allows the choice between three different riding modes.  A clear plus point comes in the form of Low RPM Assist, which promises relief, especially in city traffic, by raising the revs when starting off.  In addition, the Quick Shift system allows quick upshifts and downshifts without using the clutch, enabling smooth and brisk acceleration.  Additional protection is provided by Suzuki’s Traction Control System (STCS) against unwanted wheel slip and a customizable anti-lock braking system.

Stability and adaptability: The chassis

A solid steel-frame chassis forms the basic framework of the new Suzuki V-STROM 800, and it is said to display a combination of torsional rigidity and the right amount of flexibility for agile handling.  Even in suboptimal road conditions, this is intended to ensure a relaxed ride.  High-quality suspension elements from SHOWA also ensure ride comfort.  Adjustments to the upside-down fork and central shock allow the bike to be adapted to different uses and preferences.

For eyes and comfort: design and amenities

With an air of elegance, the V-STROM 800 rolls on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear cast aluminum wheels that feature a seven-spoke design with V-shaped spokes.  A 20-liter fuel tank, a seat with a high-quality foam core and a height-adjustable windshield designed according to wind tunnel studies provide additional comfort and travel-ready features.

On course for information and technology

Technology is not neglected either: the five-inch TFT-LCD multifunction display serves as a central source of information for all relevant driving data and system settings.  At the same time, the LED lighting and signaling system not only provides excellent visibility, but also gives the Adventure Tourer a striking look with its vertically aligned, hexagonal main headlights.

At home on the long haul: price and availability

If you’ve now got an appetite for this asphalt adventure, you should keep an eye on November.  That’s when the Suzuki V-STROM 800 will be available from authorized Suzuki partners.
